So, Hi guys!
Decided to try my wings in HUD-"modding"/texturing and came up with this.
The idea to this came when I started to get slightly annoyed by the default UI, some of the UI graphics were obstructing my view (mostly waypoints etc, couldn't see which way the racing tube was pointing etc).. so I'm now making the whole UI to suit my tastes better
Also, if you guys want to try and/or give constructive critisism, it would be grand.
To remove window frames/cockpit: go to options in main menu and disable 3d cockpit.

DONE (-ish, subject to updates):
-gun sights
-mouse flight cursor
-nav & waypoint markers
-display screens
TODO:
-top bar (compass, buttons)
-friendly/neutral/enemy overlays
-cursors
-trade/inventory/etc menu
-map
-everything not in DONE -list
I plan to rework the whole hud, at the momet the whole top bar, trading menus etc arent done, but maybe next week
EDIT: Doh, forgot to mention the nebula isn't part of my mod, thats from Enhanced Nebulae Mod

Hi - welcome to the forum and to the game and thanks for sharing!
I love the displays - very techy but simple - definitely of the less is more school of design
I agree that there are time when the hardware in the cockpit gets in the way, but I do like the feeling of being in a cockpit.
When you've completed it to your satisfaction I would definitely like to try it out though

Thanks DaveK
Yep, aiming for the dead simple look here. Will continue with the graphics tomorrow-ish, lost my temper a while back when inkscape decided to crash and I lost about half done top bar
Oh well...
EDIT: meh, I never seem to get a post done correctly the first time trying:
DIdn't mean the cockpit frame was obstructing, I ment the navigation markers and what not.

maybe I did something wrong but I still have a frame obscuring my view, placed in a folder named hud, which I know is right but no open cockpit for me, not running newest build maybe thats it. edit actually I am running the lastest build.

Weimer. I am running a basic HUD profile, low resolution except for the b2compass frame across the top of my HUD; just the game-standard one. I have this HUD folder installed in the drive sw3dg folder for the game, not the save sw3dg data file. If you acquired the HUD folder as a zip-file, you might try extracting that zip-file in another location. Then do the cut-n-paste thing with the HUD folder. This iteration, Build 1.404, as with a host of other builds, has supported HUD mods; and the other environment, ship, and warp mods too. Maybe there are some conflicting directions being given to the game engine, from that folder ? Not a media-mangling genius here. More nuts-and-bolts. Was just a thought.

Try disabling 3D cockpit from the options in main menu, if thats what you meant with the frameFrom post: 108385, Topic: tid=7645, author=SDWeimer wrote:maybe I did something wrong but I still have a frame obscuring my view, placed in a folder named hud, which I know is right but no open cockpit for me, not running newest build maybe thats it. edit actually I am running the lastest build.

I like your HUD very much. I use a 50" Plasma TV and the less the better so I don't get to much burn in on the screen. Also being able to see more space is always a plus. Thanks for putting in the time. I am going to use your HUD
