File Operation Error - 4270 (Abrreviated) (EM 1.428)

Just purchased the client, got to the Main Menu and attempted to launch, but was unable to do so. Got to 94% (Loading Cockpit) then I keep receiving the message:

File Operation Error

Encryption Error: 67589211511951100103926911811199104114111110771011149910111097114121921121051081111164846115119 - 4720

Have attempted to access the tutorial, but received the same message at the catchall and each tutorial individually.

Never did the vista thing but maybe its uac or a virus program has it doing strange things.

And also send me any files with 'pilot' in the name from the game's default save data folder (c:\\sw3dg\\EvochronMercenary). Odds are, it's something system specific and should be easy to resolve.

UAC is turned off, and the only Anti-Virus I'm running at all times is NOD32 V4.2.40.0.

I haven't tried to create a new profile since 1.428, but I had bought the Show Me the Games Bundle 1, which had a link to the client version 1.408 I believe, during which I created the profile that I am currently trying to use. Or some older version of the game to say the least, which might be a point of interest to the developer, since people have to go and update after purchasing through SMTG rather than just downloading the latest version.

Back on topic, should I attempt to create a new profile, would that have any bearing/might be an influence on the problem at hand?

I can't think of any reason why you shouldn't use the update that Vice provides - an update is an update. You don't have to insert your pilot profile into a new update, it's done automatically, as is all your other data.

You could try deleting your previous version/s of the game, and reinstall the latest update, which, is the complete game, not just a patch, and see if it runs OK.

Best, overall, to send Vice your pilot profile, found within the SWG3 file, as (pilot0 - pilot1...etc).

I have this error too, using win7 64 bit. I deleted my install, but I'll redo it and submit an error report in the morning if it would help.

I followed the instructions in the troubleshooting thread and lowered my video settings, and it worked. I have an integrated video card in my laptop, so I would speculate that it's the problem. In any case, I went ahead and sent in the error report.

Glad that worked, it seems it will solve the problem for others as well. Having an integrated 3D video system means that some of your system memory is often consumed by the 3D system for use as video memory, which further depletes whatever available memory your system had to start with. When the game stops at about 94%, it generally means it could not find any more memory to complete such operations and will close with the error message.

A system's memory can be used up by an integrated 3D system or blocked by a security program (for some reason, it seems a few block upper regions of memory that games often need). By lowering the detail settings, you lower how much upper memory the game needs to run and may be able to stay under the limit your system has available. Other fixes include adding the game to a security program's exception list, using alternate security programs that do not have as many interference issues with games, using dedicated 3D video systems on laptops (if available), stopping as many unnecessary background programs as possible (Start > Run/Search > type in MSCONFIG and press enter > Startup tab > uncheck boxes next to programs you want to remove), or simply install more memory if needed.
