Exploration!!

Post by Gquann »

Hi, I'm relatively new to Evochron Mercenary and am really enjoying it.

I've decided to do some exploration and have already taken a trip to Sol although couldn't land on Earth. Now I'm trying to find some hidden systems and planets without much luck.

I've been jumping about for hours looking for something out there and am thinking maybe I'm doing something wrong. I'm not after any spoilers but would like to know at least if planets are supposed to come up on my nav map if I'm in range or if you have to physically look with your eyes. I found a wormhole in Sol that took me back to the main systems and that was on the navmap.

Anyway I hope I'm making some sense. :)

Thanks,

Gquann.

Hello Gquann, Welcome to the forum and the Sim in case I have not welcomed you yet. Yes you will be able to see most planets when you are close. I say most because a few may not show up. Until a couple of members created some cool programs to find planets it was a lot of miss and very little hit. SeeJay has a site that lists a lot of planets we have found. Another member has a program that lets you triangulate and offers possible locations for planets if you follow the directions right. I say that as I often forget a step and have to start over. Atollski's program is that program and you can find it on SeeJay's sight which you can get to by looking for one of his posts and following the lead at the bottom to the (NEW) lead. On his site you will see a download option and the program with limited instructions is there. Marvin taught me how to use the program but others may be of help also.See you out there sometime.:)

Hi :)

Exploration is a big topic in Evochron. There have been several threads about how hard it was and as a result a couple of people wrote some add-ons to the game that allow you to map where you have been or even download an up to date map of everything that has been found. The map is interactive and even lets you show that position of your ship in real time!

The nav screen in you ship lets you see the known systems including overlays of political and economic info. There are many more uncharted systems around Evochron. SeeJay and Mapman are the creators of the map. Atollski's gem is a logging system that lets you cruise around, find boundaries between systems and then use a nifty triangulation option to suggest locations worth exploring for new planets etc. Marvin has written a decent guide for using it to find new systems

The issue is that both addons can be spoilers since they can show everything that has been found. Atollski's logging programme can be used without loading the universe data - then you just add the stuff you've found and build up a map of space you've explored.

There might be a database in a thread somewhere that just has the "official" charted systems in it - but you might think that that is cheating as well - part of the fun of the game is exploring everything and discovering things for yourself (wrecks, carriers, asteroid fields, asteroids with caves inside, stations, stars, containers of free goodies, wormholes (to new places), black holes that with care can be used to go to other systems as well.

A few descriptions of how to discover things using pattern searches have also been described in threads.

Depending on how much help you want (Personally, I think that getting hold maps of all the known systenms is the equivalent of buying maps of your own country and so is OK) you might try using the search function (top of the page) and using the people named above or "maplog" as keywords.

Wait a short time longer and others on the forum will offer you loads of encouragement, help and advice (including joining MP where you can get lots of help and advice)

This community is the most helpful and interested and interesting I've come across! :)

Thanks everyone for your replies! Some useful information.

I'm going to try finding that planet in Pearl to start with.

Hi, I think I'm starting to understand this exploration. Me and a friend just found a planet and the first of many hopefully!!

I'm trying to get a method together. I'm pretty sure this planet was an easy one to find but still I'm very pleased.

Good going! The 'System' name indicates the name of the closest planet (that isn't hidden!) so keep a beady eye out when it changes to something new...

Yeah the planet I found was in an "unknown" system. I'm not sure if that means it's a hidden planet or not. I was following a border when my friend suggested having a quick look visually with the mk1 eyeball! He saw a spec that looked different from the stars so we headed towards it.
