Just purchased Evochron Mercenaries. Installed, started, loading up the training sequence. As soon as it began, the game began playing this banging sound, like a kettle drum. It's continuous, and plays just about once a second. Went through some of the training, then got annoyed and figured I'd see if it did it in the real game. It does. It only does this during live gameplay, but not in the main menu or after bringing up the in-flight ESC options menu.
Anyone have any idea why it's making this sound? The game looks pretty interesting, but I cannot play if it's going to make that noise.

Sounds like you have a control bound to weapon sorting and your secondary weapons are cycling. Just check those controls and clear/change them as needed.

Hmm. Yeah, that seems like a reasonable explanation. I'll poke around at the controls and see what happens.
Probably won't come back to the game for a few days - my old analog joystick seems to have way too much of a dead zone, so it's probably about time to upgrade first. Thanks for the help, though.

Don't condemn that joystick just yet! There is a deadzone adjustment in the menu!

Yeah, and I've already got it at a minimum.
I suppose I misspoke somewhat in that last post. The joystick I'm currently using is an ancient Gravis Blackhawk, an analog gameport joystick. My laptop doesn't have a gameport, so I'm using a gameport->USB converter. I purchased a Blackhawk Digital (the updated version) a while back, but while it works okay on an actual gameport, for some reason it doesn't want to work with the converter. So, I just ordered a different converter in hopes that it'll cooperate.

Maybe if you let the wife, and kids, out of the cellar, the banging noise would stop!

One way to tell if your weapons are cycling is to check your dash panel. This should help identify which is causing the problem. I'd guess your joystick throttle is all the way up or down and assigned to cycle one of your weapons. I've already experienced this.......and I forgot I assigned it that way. DOH!! Was driving me crazy for a while.
My worst control assignment mishap. Using the joystick throttle for acceleration in BF2. Spawning in on my Squad Leader who happens to be manning the gun in a jeep just out of site of the tank behind the wall. He's trying to take out the infantry crossing the road and not get blown up. I spawn in default as the driver with the throttle all the way up. Needless to say he kicked me from the squad as soon as we re-spawned.
