Or renegades or what? I can't seem to find a timeline.
Also if anybody feels like telling me how multiplayer works (co, vs, teams ect) that would be great!
Also are there any guides that talk about how to make money? In the campaign I can't seem to get into the black. Fuel and repairs cost way more than I can make.
Mercenary is the latest game. Released less than 6-months ago. In the game instructions, it tells you how to log into MP (there are also several threads here in the forum that will help).
Bottom Line: In Mercenary, when you enter the game, click on Multiplayer, then on find server, click on the server name and then go nuts.
Thanks Dave! I'm not gonna inflict my newbie self on people in MP just yet. I still want to get the basics down. Until I can reliably take down AI's I dont want to curse some poor team or something with my lack of skills.
BTW how does the MP work though? I understand how to log into it but what is the focus of it? Capture the flag? Chase the transport? Co-op? I was just wondering what sort of options were available.
Also, to answer your questions about multiplayer, check out the instructions included with the game. They include a big section on multiplayer and details on the available options. Here are a few excerpts:
Multiplayer in Evochron Mercenary features both human and computer controlled ships. Up to 35 human players can join together in each hosted game. You can meet for trading, combat, mining, cooperative contract objectives, racing, and exploration. Team up with other players for massive battles and claim systems as your own, or fly solo and try to survive alone. Establish fines and taxes or inspire a wealthy utopia. Have some players be paid police officers to enforce your rules or hire others to retrieve commodities for you. You can use the variety of available gameplay options to set up the kind of multiplayer universe you want. You can play online or over a LAN (Local Area Network).
...
Players can join together to cooperatively complete contract objectives. A contract link is automatically established when two or more human players are in the same sector and one player selects a contract from a station, carrier, or a planet.
...
Multiplayer also lets you race other players. Unlike the contract option to race AI controlled ships in the single player mode, the multiplayer mode provides a race challenge option in the trade console. To race another player, establish a trade connection with them, then click on 'Send Race Challenge'. The player that sends the challenge will establish where the race course is placed.
...
You can also link to another player's ship as a gun turret operator with the trade console. To do this, click on the 'Connect Gunner Binding' button. The player who clicks on the button will become the gunner. A frame will appear around the ship of the receiving player that will point in the direction the gunner is facing. The gun turret will be controlled by the same device the connecting player selected for flight control. The particle cannon and beam cannon that was on the connecting player's ship will be transferred to the gun turret. They will also have their own power supply for the weapons.
...
For permanent stations built by players, the server program's online multiplayer system stores the stations for a unified gameplay universe, letting you or any other player construct stations at new locations.
...
Voice chat is also available and lets you talk with other players using your computer's mic. To send a voice message, hold the default NUMPAD-. (decimal/period) key and talk into your computer's mic. Release the key to stop broadcasting.
...
Evochron Mercenary supports fleet/clan identification labels. You can use these labels to group players together on the same team. Players using the same team/clan identification labels will appear as green targets to each other while members of a different team/clan will appear as red targets.
...
Clan groups can also take partial control of solar systems through cooperative contracts and clan-vs-clan battles in multiplayer. The server tracks events involving completed contracts and clan wars, then awards percentage points to victorious groups, giving them a partial ownership interest in the system. When clan control is above 80% in a system, they are paid a percentage of earnings from that system.

I'm new to the game too, and the best way I've found to make money at entry level is mining. Get a couple of cargo bays and go mining for platinum and diamonds (assuming that's what diam stands for -- and BTW, how the heck did diamonds get into an asteriod?!?!). Mining is mind-numbingly tedious, but it does make you enough creds to pay for fuel and a few ship upgrades.
Anyways, as I said, I'm a noob, so this information should be taken with a grain of salt. It may not be worth much
You will find lots of help if you play online. Come look me up and I can give you some seed $$ to help you on your way. Put 5 cargo bays on your ship and go mine. Throw away the metal and fill your bays with diamonds and Platinum. You'll have lots of $$ in no time. There are some great lucrative trade runs also. I've made most of my fortunes on trade runs. I actually made 22 million on 1 run that took me 5 minutes round trip. When fighting, try to avoid using missiles. They will kill your profit margin!! Be sure to use inertial mode when fighting or you'll be a sitting duck. Don't burn all your fuel with the afterburner. Get up to 1200 and turn inertia on. You'll be able to shut off your engines and afterburner and drift at 1200. Just turn and tear em up Hit ios mode and afterburner back to 1200 and do it again. You're harder to hit goin 1200!!
