Auto Pilot wish

I may be wrong but right now we have to put in the coordinates for a destination then hit auto Pilot. Is it possible to have the autopilot just jump in the direction you point your ship until you want to stop? This to me would be a very nice function and may have been discussed already. Ideas?:o

A second key press that simply jumped max distance in the direction you are facing and then repeated until you disengage auto pilot.

It could be used for jumping off into nowhere - ie without a destination in mind, perhaps when exploring (why?) or as an emergency jump out without having to set a nav point

More useful would be an automatic autopilot disengage when fuel levels fall below a set value, so you can't be left without any fuel to get to the fuel processor you've just created!! :P

Not for me, but an interesting idea.
How would you start that kind of jump sequence?
Hum, How about calling it cruise control instead of auto pilot. You push a button and away your ship goes jumping in the direction you are pointed till you disengage. Just a thought. We used to use stacks of coins to hold down the keys if anyone remembers that.:P:D:mad:

Yes that one :):D:P! A control built in could avoid all those insufficient energy notices.:D

 Tbird, if you want that option to go planet-hunting, you don't need it. Atoll's program requires you to be a little more systematic ... it also requires that you stay on the galactic plane most of the time.

Sometimes I like to just go straight ahead after picking a direction at random as in old style exploring. I am looking forward to learning the new way though.:)

We've already got basic cruise control - it's called the throttle. Perhap "hyper-cruise" control :P:P:P

 When hunting, sometimes it's easier (and less confusing) to travel along one of the cardinal headings (north, south, east or west). You can do that (forever) by adding or subtracting a huge amount to either the SX (east-west) or SZ (north-south) Destination coordinates.
