Current version is 1.5 . released 28 feb 2011

A software to run on a second monitor or computer.
Shows a browsable Map of known systems and objects. These are gathered by SeeJay and are constantly updated in a global database.

Also connects to the game itself and shows ,your ship on the map, your fuel-level, your shield level etc graphically

You can also create your own findings (only in stand alone version. Installs on Mac, Win, Linux. To create a system you must actually BE in that system.

Hi

Is there any way of locking onto the Quadrant Map when in tracker mode so that I can use it when exploring between systems without having to click on Quadrant Map and then Zoom between (the very many) jumps I'm making. It's great to be able to see where I am in the universe though even if it isn't possible to lock on. :D

Is it a feature where your ship is always in the middle of the map and scrolls along with your movement
you are refering to?

It shouldn't be any problems I think. at least not if you have a fixed zoom level.

MapMan is currently in Norway (working) so he will come back with a more definite answer.

He will also add the PY and SY coords when you add an object.

At the moment, as we always have had, we have the ship on the Nav Map (not centred) and you can see it creep across the map, especially at low zooms and fast speeds as you travel within a system.

With Tracking active we also have the ship placed on the Quadrant Map again not centred. Effectively the quadrant map is behaving like a greatly zoomed out Nav Map but on a multi-system scale, except for the fact that it reverts to the Nav Map after every jump (or from zoomed Quadrant Map to normal Quadrant Map after one jump and back to the Nav Map after a second jump)

It would be more useful for me to have the ability to keep the zoomed Quadrant Map there all the time. I can use Commitis to see when I cross a system boundary and the nav log to hold a permanent record of the location where I crossed the boundary - the zoomed Quadrant Map would let me see how far across the void between systems I've moved.

If it was possible to have the ship icon on the Evometrics map it would be the very best! :D :D The non centering of the ship icon is better because I could set the screen to show the two systems I'm travelling between. If the ship remained centred then the embarcation system would drift off the map.

What we have at the moment is so much better than the simple Nav Screen that comes as standard with a ship - I just want the ultimate "leather seat" upgrades :D

Image I'm not sure why you'd always want to be watching the quadrant map. Admittedly, it would be nice to have it stay put during a series of jumps (for the reasons you mentioned) ... but, since icons only show up on the standard Nav Map, you could be missing out on stray planets or other objects you might otherwise find while going from one place to another.

The standard map even at max zoom has such a small area shown that the chances of dropping in on a planet or star is negligable. Are there many "odds and sods" that aren't part of a named system?). As soon as I pass a system boundary I can start the mapping and planet/star hunt. bty - is it worth using a sensor station at that point? When I left Pearl I made lots and lots (and lots and lots and . . . . ) of jumps whilst remaining in "unknown". I've just found a new system and can now fly arounf a bit to try to map its border. (I must also read the triangulation info again! (and the stuff from a few months ago which gave the first method of finding new systems and their planets!) :)

 Sunday was the first time I'd run into a planet without using trilateration. Sometimes it's difficult to find a long enough length of border to use in ... as was the case this time. But, heading back to an already charted part of a new system, I kept the Nav Map zoomed out all the way and, sure enough ... there it was, off to one side. Part of the same system but too far away to show up when near the star or another one of the planets.

As nice as assistive tools are, there's nothing quite like the Mk 1 eyeball, common sense (preferably version 4 or above) and a healthy dollop of good luck...

 Actually, nothing beats your program, Atoll ... not even the MkI. I've found a dozen or more planets using trilateration (most of the time, at least one set of coordinates is almost spot on) and only one planet via luck.

Atollskis program is outstanding when trying to find stuff.

The EvoMetrics is (at the moment) only a tool presenting data.
The ultimate (which we're looking at) is a merge of the two programs so
you have it all in one place.

Have fun exploring!;)

Should the map follow the ship ?

I guess i could make a mode where you automatically zoom in to the system the game reports you are in,. This ofcourse will only work if savedata.txt actually reports a system name that exists on the map. I heard someone say it sometimes reports "unknown system" .. does it?

Doesnt that work for you? The ship is plotted as a blinking yellow dot in the EvoMetrics Map, when im in tracker mode.

The name of the planet is "Unknown" ... so, yes, the system is named after the planet.

No yellow dot anywhere at any zoom level! :(

But I am having a couple of issues anyway - I've remapped a lot of controls to my joystick, and added a couple of mods. I can't alter the balance between shields and weapons - the indicator in the hud flickers for a fraction of a second and that's it" I think that I'll have to take everything out and have a clean install and start again!

Edit - has "arc" disappeared from the joystick options? :(

The "arc" is included in low and medium sensitivity settings I think.

It might have to do with Vice:s latest update to the savedata-file. He changed some
values that needs to be looked into. The fuel was an INT but is now a STRING.:(

The program is set to handle an INT value.

yeah..i would guess that will be the problem. I will release a new version as soon as possible.

FYI i have actually been in space today, testing the map for real. I have noticed some things that i will fix

1. If you have the tracker enabled, the yellow dot places above the system dot and prevents you from double clicking the system to zoom in. Workaround is to disable tracking , zoom, and then enable tracking again.

2. SZ XZ is missing...my bad.

3. Tracking works as intended. I had much use for it to actually know how to find the nearest jumps. The nav map is harder to read.

4. I crashed 6 times into the planet New Hope. This has nothing to do with EvoMetrics.

5. People in multiplayer is very friendly. Thanks all.

6. You can use your laptop for the map if you share your folder where savedata.txt is located. Im running the map on a Mac

I know the problem with the new versions of the game and im working on it.

To make it smoother you must change the value in your savedatasettings.txt to 2000.
