Upcoming Feature Technical Notes: Gaming Mouse Input Support...

Post by Vice »

The next test build will include the introduction of the new mouse button control system. The primary focus of this new system is to support more mouse buttons while also allowing them to be remappable. There will now be 3 columns of mappable controls, Keys, Joystick/Gamepad Buttons, and Mouse Buttons. You will be able to map control functions for up to 8 mouse buttons. Here are some important details:

- You can still use 3rd party profiling software for your gaming mouse, this system just gives you optional in-game control functions not previously available.

- The primary weapon controls will still switch on/off for button 1 when the flight control mode is set to 'Joystick/Gamepad' to utilize quick target selection and menu/console selection without the need to disable the mapped control function for mouse flight control modes. This will provide continued legacy functionality for players who use other game devices for flight control and will let players quickly switch between flight control modes as needed.

- The second mouse button will automatically be assigned to control secondary weapons, also for legacy functionality. However, since the buttons are now mapped functions, this may have side effects in certain consoles/menus and flight control modes. If desired, you can clear any assigned function from a mouse button entirely.

- If you map weapons to button 1 and use a mouse flight control mode, the Alt key will still disable the weapon function to let you select targets and HUD options.

- This will be the first version of the system and it will need testing. There could be secondary effects not yet discovered that may need fine tuning or changing.

I hope to have it ready for testing by the weekend.

8 on/off button inputs. The mouse wheel axis is a separate control and will continue to be used for nav map zooming, throttle, etc. The mouse wheel button will be supported and should register as button 3 on most devices.

Very nice looking forward to seeing what this will open up... regarding the topic of input I found the following app that uses Object orientated scripting to let you make custom floating sotkeys...

Combine a nice floating softkey touchpad with the new mapable mouse & I'd say tablet users will be in heaven XD
