Moon Heightmaps and Interactions

Post by TIHan »

This is another discussion specifically talking about if moons should have any purpose in Evochron. If this has been discussed before, I apologize for starting a new one; I truly believe Evochron having a moon interaction would be amazing.

The first few things about what purposes the moons should have, of course, is a base, or a small city with specific missions and items. You could have a mission that you got from a station from space that tells you to go mine particular minerals from a moon.

Also, moons need to have some sort of heightmap instead of it currently being a sphere with a texture. Some moons don't have an atmosphere (technically they do but it would hardly affect an incoming ship).

Yeah, I totally agree with you. Moons should have more elements to interact with.

Stations on the moon would be great. Due that there isn't any Oxygen, cities might have to look different than those on planets. So if we could get a new city model especially for moons I would love to be able really to fly through them - that would be amazing :)
What imo also could work would be hollow moons with stations inside or at least with a huge crater on them with a city inside. So you have some kind of a 'cave in the moon'.

About the heighmap... I'm not sure about that, due it has to be rendered then - just like the planets - and I don't know how much more it would slow down the game. Imo it's not that nessecary. Would be great though.... but it's not nessecary.

 Mars (the real Mars) has two moons ... both of which look a lot like the asteroid cave in Mercenary.

There are no attics in Florida, unless it's an indoor pool!
