Another Newbie exploring evochron

Post by garyw »

And I thought I'd be clever, I watched the videos, played the tutorial, left the space station , jumped to an asteroid field, starting mining, hit F2 to bring up the nav map - boom. Right into the rock I was mining.

So far it's been fun exploring the Sapphire quadrant(?) and I've not done too much but I can tell Evochron has a lot in it. I'm a Universal Combat & Orbiter space sim fan so feel right at home in Evochron!

One question though and I know I've missed it somewhere - How can I work out the range of a jump drive? I know that using a drive to go from one system to another is possible but will take a long time so is a jump drive upgrade recommended?

Thanks.

Welcome to a great sim. There are better jumpdrives you can buy. You probably need to leave Sapphire to
find them. Or, you can find me online (Remula 1 server) and I'll give you one. ;)

Also check the official site here for information: http://www.starwraith.com/evochronmerce ... iverse.htm

See ya out there.

 There are five classes of Fulcrum jump drive and one experimental drive called Manits. A class 5 drive can jump five sectors, max ... the Mantis drive doubles that. The distance is displayed on the left side of your navigation map after you've entered destination coordinates.

Hi Garyw, welcome to Evochron!

I see you've successfully completed your first "hit F2 thinking it was NavMap and boomsplat into an asteroid that I was mining" initiation. Don't worry, just about everyone has done that one, and chances are it won't be the last time! Hope to see you in space sometime!

I did it again last night, thought I was clear of the asteroid field, hit F2 and got a pretty blue beam intersecting the top of an asteroid. A few more meters and I would have cleared it.

I've upgraded my Jump Drive, cargo hold, fuel storage, shields and weapons but still haven't shot anyone yet. :D

Yeah I think I'm getting addicted. Will have to check out multiplayer soonish.

Image I think that's the definition of insanity. I hope, by now, you've remapped the F2 key to something else.

Lol I feel you guys. I tried removing the F2 button but then died cause I forgot where I put it and I couldn't get away fast enough.

Here are a few tips.

Don't jump out the back of a Carrier. For some reason it makes great fireworks.
Always point away from things before hitting F2
Keep an eye on your fuel gauge unless you have that thing that lets you build temp fuel stations
Fulcrum Torpedos Don't mess with them you fire you die.
Never F2 after you selected a planet
Save your game before jumping to a station surrounded by asteroids. Sometimes you go splat.
And occasionally save to a different spot.

And yes I have done all of the above :)

Oh and most of all welcome to a great game and gaming community. These guys here are friendly as kittens.

Obviously you haven't met Oasis or Romulan yet Dormin :P Then again, Oasis will give you a beautific smile while releasing her Excals.

Don't feel alone. I don't jump mistakenly so much as forget to face away from solid objects hehe.

You'll get her soon enough. Keep practicing mate.;)

The only way to improve is to fight people better than you.:D

 Yup, Oasis is the yardstick. Once you beat her, it's time to move into a War Zone and rack up some military points.
