Hi guys, I'm a new player to EM and so far enjoying the game a lot, perhaps a bit too much. I remember when I started playing two days ago, my goal was to accumulate as much cash as I could and upgrade my ship. So I began doing all sorts of missions....until today I realized that at the very start of the game, I could be making $1,000,000 as quick as in 4 minutes.
I think everyone here probably knows what I'm talking about...you know, selling Razor Cannons? Hopefully I'm not spoiling too much here.
Anyways, doesn't this seem way too easy? Whereas before I have to work really hard to earn cash, now it's just sorta handed to me on a silver plate. I'm not sure why so many people here talk about mining platinum......no more mining nor solar-cell washing for me that's for sure.
It is intentional, 1mil/minute is actually pretty low. there is a special place in MP where you can make almost 50mil/minute without much trouble. Not going to say where on the forums, other than that the path lies in Pearl.

Space Billiards is the best game ever!
Dino-Killer, Vonari homeworld.
You can do even better than 50 mil/minute, I think I earned about 3 billion dollars yesterday.
250,000 a minute isn't a lot of money. It just seems like a lot to new players. The game isn't really designed to force you to use low level equipment for a long time while scrimping and saving to afford something marginally better. If you want to make things hard for yourself the solution is simple, do things the hard way and forget the easy way exists. It is at the point in the IMG quest where it is helpful to have a better ship and equipment so I did that run a bunch of times to get the stuff available in the area with the containers. I agree if one ore two trips had gotten me the best stuff the area had to offer it would seem too easy. As it was, if I had to do it many more times it would have started trying my patience.
The levelling system in Evochron is different to some rpg where to get the best equipment (except for military frames) and access the best areas you have to level up your character. It is more like a bunch of different level dungeons with different levels of equipment that you can visit from the very start of the game. Unlike rpg's where your character has skills that mean high level enemies would easily crush you when your character is low level, survival in Evochron is determined by skill. The best equipment in the game won't stop you getting blown up in under 2 seconds. The time it takes to finish the IMG quest and bootstrap yourself up to the best equipment is on the order of a couple of hours, lets say 4 to 10. That is comparable to many other games that are released these days.
Once you have done that the levelling system in Evochron starts to matter. The pay you get for contracts is determined by civilian and military rank, to get the best military frames you will need to do 250 military missions. To max out your rank you will need to earn more than 5 billion dollars and do 1000 military contracts. That will take dozens of hours at least. After your rank has maxed out your contracts, kills and numerical civilian rank continue to rise. Multiplayer in this game is great and you can spend as many hours playing that as you like (or can get away with).
Btw platinum mining can do pretty well if you if you sell it somewhere good (where you can get more for one cargo bay worth of platinum than you can get for an entire hold worth in the starter systems). Then you can add a dedicated platinum mining beam, mining probes and a fleet that mines for you.
