I tried to create a music mod for Evochron and managed to convert 23 great tracks to be used for MusicLevel1 (songs played when threat level is the lowest). However, the game crashes just before the "Launch" is completed whenever I put more 5 songs or more in the music folder. It took me many trials and errors to figure out the number of songs is what causes the crash, however I have no idea about how to fix the problem.
Could you guys please kindly help out a modding newbie?
- Make sure the music tracks are all in the compatible OGG format.
- Make sure you include them in sets of 3 (1-1, 2-1, 3-1, 1-2, 2-2, 3-3, etc) for all threat levels.
- Verify the filenames are all correct for all sets of 3.
- Make sure your system has enough memory to load the largest song.
Thank you so much for the advices Vice! I'd never have thought, the creator of this awesome game himself helping me out....
I have to say that this may just be the game I've been waiting for all my life.
In any case, I still couldn't get it to work correctly. The game crashes when I included more than 5 songs of a single type. I've uploaded my music folder, which includes 5 sample songs I used for testing, onto the following link:
I'd greatly appreciate it if someone would kindly please see whether he/she has the same problem by putting these music in the game. If it works for you, it must be my PC's problem. Many thanks again.
Hi Marvin, if that's true then it explains why I'm having this problem. But I saw in the Mod toolkit readme saying that, "You can import up to 300 custom songs, 100 for each level." Perhaps I misunderstood what Vice means? If I combine all the songs into one large track does the game just play it from start to finish then all over again?
Just finished testing your songs. You named them and formatted them correctly, they worked great on my system. So this must be a system specific problem. If you send me an MSINFO report on your system, I can review it for possible causes: http://www.starwraith.com/evochronmercenary/faq.htm#8
Initially, I'd recommend updating the drivers for your computer's sound system and check the 'System Summary' page in the MSINFO program and verify you have at least 1.5 GB of free memory displayed next to 'Available physical memory'.
Thank you guys so much for your help. This has to be one of the friendliest forums I've ever seen
Vice, I really appreciate your help! I'll definitely do what you've suggested and try to solve it before troubling you further, after all we all know you're busy with Evochron IV
Hi Eclipse, I would hope my system have enough memory to run the mod. My Acer laptop has 4G of ram and is using a Geforce 330M 1G graphic card. Not really sure why I have this problem; I brought this laptop just 4 months ago.
By the way, most of the sample music is directly from Evochron Mercenary, there are two songs from X2/X3. In fact, my music mod only takes music from Evochron and X2/X3, but it really gives you the atmosphere in the game. I'd love to share it but not sure whether I would be violating some copyright by doing that.
