I simply can't get this to work. I've read the instruction document and watched the training videos but no matter what I do or how close I get to the central pylon, I can't get my ship refuelled at one of these deployable stations.
Is there some extra equipment I need on board to get it to work, or is there a way to manually start the refuelling process?

Probably the same thing that got me, you need to be at a complete stop before it will work. You also need full energy.
EDIT:As a more direct response no you don't need any other equipment and no there is no way to manually start it. Just get close to the central pylon and come to a complete stop.

Thanks Aures, that's what I thought.
Trouble is it's not working for me. I just tested it now. I did exactly that: got as close to the pylon as possible, settled at a complete stop and went to make a cup of tea. Came back 5 minutes later and nothing had happened.
Does it matter whether you're in IDS or Inertial mode?

It shouldn't, but if you are actually touching the pylon (you don't have to be that close) being in IDS might cause an issue. It kicks in as soon as you meet the conditions, if it doesn't work right away going away for 5 minutes isn't going to help. Not being at a full stop while having full energy was the issue for me, you might have a different problem.

I meant it starts the cycle the instant you meet the conditions not that it fills your whole tank in one go. Sorry for the confusion.

Finally got it to work. Probably just me but it seems a little tricky at times....... Found myself on a couple of occassions switching back and forth between IDS and Inertial modes three of four times before it would start refuelling. One time I had to break off refuelling thanks to a pesky hostile and on returning to the station really struggled to get the refuelling to re-start.
Not quite sure why it's giving me trouble at times..... In all cases my velocity is 0 and the vertical/ Horizontal thrusters are also zero'ed.
Anyway no worries, at least now I know that with a little fiddling I can get some much needed fuel.......... There is an awful lot of this universe to explore isn't there?!

Just wait until you try engaging the autopilot while refueling. Unless you move or your tank is full it will keep refueling every time your energy fills up rather than jump. Wait a little bit and then nudge any thruster slightly and you will jump the next time your energy fills up.
