Mining Mission for Plat worth it?

I just did a mining mission to gather 25 plat and received 12k as a reward, but if I would had sold all 25 plat for market value at the Sapphire Station where I picked up the mission I would have made MUCH more that 12k. Am I missing something or are Plat mining missions pointless? Why take the mission, when I can just mine Plat and sell it for thousands more on the market?

Doing contracts increases your reputation in the sector ... mining for profit does not.

Thanks! I guess that I will choose less painful ways to impress the local populace in the future.

A little dumb question... But where are you supposed to receive the quest reward once you harvested it all? When i went to the station it said that the quest failed. (Started playing yesterday so i'm still pretty new to this game)

You porbably selected a mission from the quest and jumped out of sector or got destroyed or did not delivery or retrieved an object properly.....And Hi Balaash and Yohan, welcome....
