Following error occured
System olympus
default ship, 1 cargo
mining beam activitated, started to extract
opening F3 inventory
eject ore by pressing J
mining beam disappears, but beam noise still active.
extraction continues but no ore is accepted in cargo
pressing B activates, deactivates beam without seeing the beam
Once moving away, or turning away of roid, beam becomes again visible when activated
extraction is now normal again: ore appears in cargo
this error does not occur if ore in cargo is ejected by clicking on the cargo item.

You can eject ore you don't want by just left clicking on it. Alt B keeps your mining/tractor beam active. Another hit on the B key switches it off.
If you search around you can find metal specific mining beams. ie: Ones that will only mine a specific metal such as platinum, gold, silver, whatever. They make mining much quicker, and profitable.
Vice will probably sort you out regarding the bug. Have fun!

Keep space tidy and beautiful:
Remove unwanted cargo by leftclicking it in space (which will discard/destroy it) instead of jettisoning it (which will leave cargo containers behind your ship).
