What\'s Happening?

So I decide to load up EM and finish up some missions before dinner. I look at the playerlist and see the infamous Romulan! I attempt to hail him, but to no avail. Suddenly, I received an alert, telling me that Romulan was attempting to destroy a station in Pearl while there were no experienced Rommie-hunters were on! I was already in the system, so I was able to respond quickly.

Now, I've had my share of death-dances with the Romulan, so I was confused. He was just hovering there. He was planting the bomb, but Romulan usually abandons his target to save his own skin, rather than just stand there and get shot. I take down his shields, and ask him why he's not responding. He even ignores fire from enemy NPCs! After I get bored and finish him off, I tell him that he can still use weapons while planting a bomb. He ignores me, and sloppily sets up a shield station that wasn't even covering him properly.



He then begins repeated attacks on the NS Warsign station, all of which fail miserably. MMaggio comes on and is surprised by Romulan's appearance. I explain the situation. Romulan continues to make a fool of himself.



I set up a scanner at NS Warsign, stationed myself there, loaded up on Exodus missiles and Fulcrum Torpedos and announced Romulan's intentions to the other players.




Hunting for the Romulan



Despite knowing that attacking NS Warsign while it was guarded like that would be suicidal, Romulan kept coming, and kept suffering the same fate.




Boom.





While this was a very successful hunt, you have to wonder. What was up with Romulan today? He rarely attempted to evade me, made pitiful attempts to defend himself, and used suicidal tactics. That's not like him at all.

Very Well.

I think the unusual nature of the above reported events deserve an explanation.

Contrary to appearances Romulan has not gone 'Doolaly' or 'Off his Rocker' or suicidal, It's very simple actually.

He needed to experiment with various resourses under different conditions whilst under attack, and he would like to thank Alpha45 for providing the attack part of the testing because the Reds were unreliable.

Although Romulan wasn't happy about sacrificing his ship for the tests, he could tell from the chat log that Alpha45 was really enjoying doing the shooting. A lot was learnt, and once again many thanx.

Hahahah awesome read. I haven't had the luxury of fighting Romulan but he has killed me once and taken pot shots at me a few times.

It's fun having a dedicated "universal" enemy that employs similar tactics to my own. Don't get too cocky though guys. The technology has improved!

I understand that the Romulan Empire has acquired some of our weapons and technology and are applying it to suit their needs.
I am not surprised to see the Romulans sacrificing a few ships to better test our defenses.
Be prepared all ye for the onslaught which is sure to come!

I've never encountered Romulan, seeing as how my first Evochron game is Mercenary, but I stumbled on the posts about him in the clan forum and thought the whole idea of "universal enemy", as TGS put it, to be pretty awesome. I look forward to having some encounters with this infamous pilot.

He did actually. But he did it so sloppily that it didn't cover him properly, so I was still able to hit him.

Also, MMaggio would have noticed. Romulan and him seem to have some sort of connection.

Update!

The infamous Romulan has attacked Pearl once again! According to sources, no experienced rommie-hunters were on at the time. He destroyed several stations, including the E17 Trade Post near the asteroid cave used by platinum miners to sell their goods. No major loss has occurred, as the trade post was quickly rebuilt and the money quickly resumed its flow.

An underhanded move indeed.
