Navigation Display glitch
Hope the feature here isn't related to the pilot, which could well be the problem but .....
sometimes (not consitant) when I zoom out to see a larger sector range and then subsequntly right click into a sector to zoom in on it, nothing is displayed in the sector box. I can still place an invisible jump point down guestimating a safe jump area and continue from there to get a display when then in sector. But of course it would be nice to have a consitant display when jumping into sector areas.
(This isn't me incorrectly selecting blank sectors, the ones I select and get no display relate to visibly populated sectors on zoom out)

As far as I know there can be two causes for this... Both equally annoying.
1. Because everything is so small now and when you click on something it actually 'focuses' on that object rather than the sector so you might actually not be clicking close enough to the object to focus on that object specifically which means you're actually zooming in on a sector next to it which may have nothing in it. (I would really hope that one day in the not too distant future Vice puts in a "sticky zoom" toggle so that in events like this you can toggle it off and zoom out one level and see what you're looking for next to the sector you DID zoom into rather than it bouncing back to your ship's location)
2. While you may have the X and Z coordinates zooming in correctly the object you are trying to select is in fact somewhere along the Y coordinate. If this is the case click the "rear" button on the nav map to flatten out the map to allow you visual access to the Y: coordinate.

When I first log in.. I can zoom all the way out.. pick ANY sector and it will zoom right in perfect.. I did this several times in Olympus not a problem. I then took a gate to Saphire and I would only see blank sectors on zoom. Not even if you set a nav point.. it's still blank.. until you jump.. then all objects will appear.
It only starts acting up after I: 1. Play for a long period of time or 2. Load a new system (jump gate).
I hope this helps recreate the issue and points devs toward a solution.

You might have some open files related to Evochron Mercenary that may interfear or programs running in the background....I have had the same problem, closing all programs and open files ussualy resolves the issue after exiting the game and then relaunching with all other files and uneccesary background applications not running...

Well that sucks. What if you want teamspeak, say2play, or dedicated server? Guess you're SOL then lolOriginally posted by Maarschalk

I also found something else weird in the navigation screen.
The text toggle is different on the left. In legends if it says "Gates" at the text to the right.. you're looking at Gates. But in Mercenary the text shows what is to displayed next.. like looking at All the text toggle to the right says Planets.. showing Planets I believe text is showing next to be Gates. Now although I picked this up.. my nephews get very confused by this. It was easier to understand when the text show exactly what was displayed and not what is next.

Teamspeak and say2play should work fine, particularly since they are designed to not interfere with primary programs like games.Well that sucks. What if you want teamspeak, say2play, or dedicated server? Guess you're SOL then lol
The category buttons on the Nav map now use the 'click-to' method that other buttons use. That is, you click on the button to access what it displays. In Legends, there was a mix of this, where some buttons displayed what was active while others displayed what to click-to. By request, all buttons now use the 'click-to' presentation, so to access 'All', you'd click on 'All' to see it, rather than clicking on something like 'Planets' to see all text. The text toggle is different on the left. Well the nav screen still has missing objects on all the computers here even with nothing else running. It works on and off.. sometime you can right click and zoom right in.. other times it's completely blank, not even a nav marker if you click there.Originally posted by Vice

Yeah like I said I get it, but some don't.. My poor nephew get's so confused when i tell him to go to a gate and the toggle says something completely different. I tell him look for the purple ones! lolThe category buttons on the Nav map now use the 'click-to' method that other buttons use. That is, you click on the button to access what it displays. Maybe I missed it.. but maybe something at the top of the map saying "Displaying Gates" or "Displaying Stations" ect ect. That might help. Although you could just tell me to take a hike too. lol

To help demonstrate this I've uploaded a video to Youtube. It's actually my very first video ever, but I think it came out quite nicely.
Evochron Mercenary Navigation Zoom Glitch
This happens even with no programs in background, and running the lowest possible display settings.
Operating System: Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit
Processor: AMD Phenom(tm) II X6 1090T Processor (6 Cores) ~3.5GHz
Motherboard: ASUS Crosshair II
Memory: OCZ Reaper 8192MB DDR2 1066 RAM
Video Card: 2x NVIDIA GeForce 1GB 9800 GT SLI
Sound Card: SoundMax ROG Supreme FX
I hope this helps to recreate the issue and find a fix.
Video was recorded with FRAPS and edited, coverted, and uploaded with CyberLink PowerDirector.

+1 on the navigation glitch.
It's fairly random, the sector is completely blank, I define a jumppoint and jump. Once the display refreshes, the stations, planets gates etc all re-appear.
Windows 7 Ultimate (32-bit)
iMac 27" (Intel i-5s)
ATI Radeon HD 4850
Great game by the way. Now if I can only manage to actually kill a hostile ship....

First of all, nice video. I noticed before the first jump you put the view to rear view and jumped before setting it back to top view. That is what I ussualy do, setting the view back to top view before jumping. And I ussualy do not have this problem....When the dispaly says rear view you are acttually looking on your map at top view. And when it says top view you are looking at the rear view. I noticed when you made your first jump to Olympus the display changed from displaying the words topview which is actualy rear view to displaying the words rear view which is actualy top view.Originally posted by Swashbunglar

So it looks like the game is resseting the display of text but not the nav view map itself till your next jump....intresting...

When I travel to stations and gates I almost always map flip so I can get in close. My one nephew always gets lost quick naving without a flip, then finds out he's about a sector or 2 above or below the intended target. I also aim just a hair off on stations/carriers as I had ONE huge nav mistake that put me THROUGH a station and out as spaghetti on the other side. lol
I get within a 1000M of the dock every time now so all is good.
I still play it dead on with the gates.. I figure they are small , what's the chance I'll hit one? lol Then in the video you see I dang near hit the sign post!
That was my comment about my wicked driving. lol

And if you want to dock instantly with Constructor Stations or Carriers you can also use the rigth click on them for Constructor Stations thou you have to make sure that your pitch is set to 0 and your heading is either one of four 0, 90, 180 or 270 degrees any other will make you come out like spaghetti again. For Carriers your pitch again set to 0 and heading set to 180 degrees right click on the carrier and you can dock instantly like this......

I'll have to write this stuff down and get it into memory.
Often my nephews and I race to see who can get back to station and docked.. now I have a unfair advantage.. Of I'll tell them, but not right away.. I'll rub it in a bit then tell them I'd been cheating. lol
We always play dirty like that anyway... On one cargo mission.. one nephew actually SHOT ME!! to beat me to the cargo. Damn kids! lmfao
Good times ha ha

One is out of college, lives here and makes me crazy 24-7. lol
The others live here when they are off from college or the army.
The nieces are all in highschool, one isn't "too cool" to play video games with the uncle. Which is good.
The rest just think I'm weird and a game junkie.. which is true, but no reason to think I'm too uncool to hang out with. lol
My gaming goes a little beyond junkie. I write reviews and guides. Currently a game design student... failing 3d lol
Thinking about making some review videos as well.
So then it's not goofing off. It's research! lol *wink wink

I assume i experience this glitch aswell...
Atleast when i right click on another sector (or something in that sector like a planet for example) to zoom in, it shows nothing.
I can scroll with the mouse wheel to see it (from my current location) and i can see it on the navigation map when i look at it from the other view, but i can't zoom in.
Usually i have to end the game and reload to solve it.

I've been getting this as well in both the original game and the 1.098 test build.
Only seems to happen after a few hours of gaming and exiting the program and restarting seems to sort it out everytime.
