Backstory/Cockpits/Battleships.

Post by OneoftheLost »

Exactly what the topic says! :) Just a few questions in everyone's favorite number format.

1. Ive been doing quite a few military missions, and just got a new Wraith, I mostly specialize in the 'secure this item' and 'requesting reinforcments' type missions. Now, I use the Excalibur missle system pretty religiously, and sometimes a missle goes astray after my target goes boom, but I cannot fathom why sometimes my friendly Navy battleship will suddenly turn red and start launching missles at me. Is this because of a stray Excal hitting it? It will also STAY red if I see another ship of the same make in the next mission. Eventually they will go green after I get a certain number of kills, but its an odd behavior.

2. I watched the intro movie, but have largely disregarded the main storyline. Now, I understand the Alliance is standing up to the Vonari, who suddenly appeared after the colonies had been founded, and blew up a planet. Where do the Rebels and Federation come into play? Are the rebels pirates? Little confused on the backstory, I believe it started with Riftspace?

3. One of my favorite parts about getting a new ship in most space games, is the acquisition of a new cockpit as well. Helps give that 'im in a new ship' feeling. Seeing how much work has gone into the original cockpit, and all of the displays and such, I was thinking we only had one cockpit because it made things simpler, and you knew where everything was?

Basically, is it a gameplay decision, or a technical one? (Ive seen the mods, but I think they replace the default cockpit.)

Also, while on the subject of cockpits, I have a suggestion for Merc. Is it possible to change the color of the right display text? The enemy ship comes up as red, and while there is nothing wrong with the game design, I find it extremely hard to read when coupled with the blueish color of the background. (I have trouble differentiating certain colors. Red just happens to be one.)

Better yet, is there somewhere in the config file that this could be changed? and if so, could the same be done for merc? Although with the new font, and more vibrance, it may be easier to see in merc.

Strangely I can see all of the little warning arrows and messages that pop up near my reticule, its just the really small font and display color, that make the text a real pain to read. I may be inadvertantly attacking my own battleships. >.>

Well. Thats all for now, some of you have seen me in MP, if so, thanks for your help!

excals have an automatic lock on, and will always target a ship, if there are no reds then it'll be a yellow of green. you can avoid hitting anything in this situation by swapping targets untill it runs out of fuel.

The story has been going on for a little while, Evochron is on the edge of Vonari space ( which is Huuge btw), they first appeared during one of the alliance - federation wars. after the last real conflict between them the alliance was victorious , however there is still a strong federation identity, even if it is nominally part of the alliance. generally speaking this is true for other smaller factions though their names escape me atm. by and large the story starts with riftspace and includes arvoch conflict, but you have to go back to starwraith 2 and 3 for info on the first alliance - federation wars and the first appearance of the Vonari.

I believe this is possible already in legends, see customization kit for details, same is true for font size and font itself IIRC

So you are colour blind then?

...you can change the backround colour with the mod kit. Change it to any other colour than blue (or red) and you'll see it fine.

While not all games are described here, and it is slightly outdated, you can always use the Evoclopedia to read up on the backstory of all games up till the later Evochrons.

Hah, very nice read!

Answered most of my questions. Little bit confused on one point.

During the intro movie of EL, it mentions a planet being destroyed by the Vonari.

Any info on this event, or is it meant for the beacons?

It is part of the Renegades Beacon Quest and Legends Beacon Quest.
In Renegades you supose to find out what happened to the Renegades by following the beacon quest.
The planet destroyed by the Vonari was where the Renegades hath made a home.......;)
