Legends Navigation questions

Post by spadefoot »

Just picked up the demo of Legends, looks really neat!

I've been through the tutorial, and done a tiny bit of buy-and-sell trading. The navigation screen (F1) is completely mystifying me.

1) If I zoom it in enough to be able to read the text labels, then I can only see a tiny section of the map, and there don't appear to be scroll buttons to move the map around??

2) Is there a way to search for a planet or a station or anything like that? The plot bit at the beginning says to look for a beacon on Erato II, but I don't see a way to find that planet.

3) Is there a way to get any kind of information on what you click on in the map? If I click on a station, or a planet or whatever, it doesn't really tell me anything about it.

I'm probably just being thick about the whole thing, but it's got me frustrated and baffled.

Sapphire is the most cluttered region of space so, when you click on the "Text On" button while in Sapphire, it can be difficult to read the labels. But, with text on, you can then select which type of text (planets, jumpgates, etc.) you're looking for ... and ignore the rest. The arrows located midway along the edges of the map will "scroll" (actually, it's more of a "jump") one sector at a time.
2) Is there a way to search for a planet or a station or anything like that? The plot bit at the beginning says to look for a beacon on Erato II, but I don't see a way to find that planet.
Zoom all the way out on the map to find the planet ... then (what I do) is left-click on the planet, select "Rear View," left-click on it again (especially if it is above or below you) ... then go back to "Top View" and right click to zoom in. If you're trying to view other star systems, click on the "Quadrant Map" button ... 'though you cannot zoom in on planets that are in a different star system.
3) Is there a way to get any kind of information on what you click on in the map? If I click on a station, or a planet or whatever, it doesn't really tell me anything about it.
Go to the News Console (from your Inventory Console) to get additional data on nearby planetary systems.

I'm thinking not, thanks though. This is far more complicated than I'm interested in. I guess there is more "simulator" in this game that I was hoping for.

Hello and welcome.

1 - The game uses a sector-zoom function rather than slide scrolling. So if you see something in a nearby sector that you want a closer look at, just right click in that sector box. There are also buttons to scroll the nav map around once you're zoomed in. Look for the arrows at the edges of the map.

2 - If you observe the details on the map for a certain local gate, you'll notice a destination name that'll help there. A little exploration is often needed to find something or complete a certain task. As you learn where things are as you explore, you'll be able to quickly discern how to get there.

3 - Hold the mouse pointer over the object's icon on the map when you are zoomed in on it (use the 'Highlight' text mode to avoid text clutter in systems with a lot of objects). You'll retrieve its name and coordinates. For information on the kind of economy in the area, likely market conditions, threat levels, reputations, etc, you can use the quadrant maps, the news console (which includes a local market ticker, system description, reputation bars, and news headlines), and the nearest planet icon (planets are the basis of the system's economy type).

"Welcome to the forum Spadefoot"..... With time the complication you feel will disappear as you learn all aspects of the simulation in game....you will gain confidence with your abilities as you master the Game and all that it has to offer. There are a lot of Good pilots here that will help you both in the Forum and in Multi-player online. I hope to see you one day online in MP :)

Hi spadefoot, Welcome to the game and forum. Yes it is mostly a space simulation game and like any simulation game there is a learning curve. Compared to other simulation games this ones learning curve is not that intense and makes it quick and easy to learn and getting started to enjoy the game...If you are new to space simulation games it can be daunting...but with a little bit of effort the rewards of discovery are great imho...Hope you give Multiplayer a try...Hope to see you maybe out there....;)
