So I'm going to assume that this question is thrown around quite a bit, and while I searched a few pages back I really didn't find too many answers for what I was specifically looking for. So, I apologize if I'm just beating a dead horse here.
Rawr.
So, pondering about making Legends my next purchase. Downloaded the demo, played around a bit. My questions pertain to the shipyard and ship customization primarily.
I know, by way of the forums, that the game currently does not support anything larger that a "freighter" class of ship. This is okay as far as I am concerned, but......
I have a question about the amount of ships available in the live version. Are there any more "cockpits" in wish to build upon?
I believe I counted 10 different cockpits, of which there are 4 different models. That just seems to be rather slim pickings to me. You see, I suffer from unique snowflake syndrome, and I worry that, even with the ability to adjust position and size of various components that come end-game time, when you have acccess to the best equipment, that every ship I have will look like clones. Rearranged, equipment similiar clones, taking into consideration energy, assembly costs and other building balancing factors. Will my ships look very similar to other players at end-game who have similar playstyles as my own?
So another question really. When you get a different "cockpit" (or base), do you have the ability to add, position, and size out non-functional parts (frills)?
Can you only have 1 engine, 1 set of wings, 1 of those options in the shipyard screen? Or can future, advanced cockpits have more than 1 of these options at any given time?
(IE, can I have 2 engines, or even 2 sets of wings at any given time?)
Can you adjust size, position of the weapons you equip?
What about equipment? Does it have an option to place it graphically?
When it comes to space games in general, I enjoy customizing ships. Its the first thing that caught my eye about the game. But with the limited options, my enthusiasm quickly faded. Really hoping that there is more when it comes to graphically adjusting your ship.
However, when it comes to videos showing the shipyard across the web, my searches were again, on the non-existent side. I'm assuming this is because of the excellent demo version of the game. But still, no videos explaining how to build a ship/manage equipment, weapons. I'm not saying they don't exist, just saying that I couldn't find any.
Thank you very much in advance, sorry for the jumbled long read.

Cockpits are different from frames, so I'm taking the approach that you're referring to ship frames rather than the cockpit. There are 10 civilian frames and 6 military frames. Civilian frames are flexible in their design configuration, military ships are much more static and are limited to adjustements in fuel tank capacity.I have a question about the amount of ships available in the live version. Are there any more "cockpits" in wish to build upon?
Maybe, maybe not. That's too subjective to provide a definitive answer on. There are 'enough' configuration options that the same frame class can look very different, even with the same parts, simply due to the scaling and positioning options of each sub-component. In multiplayer sessions I've been part of, civilian ships have had pretty unique designs, even when they have the same class frame. Even 'high end' players often choose a frame that is not the 'best' because the 'best' to them simply isn't the 'highest' on the list. The frames have some unique attributes that are best suited to particular roles, the visual customizing options simply help faciliate the ability to customize the appearance of your ship. It may or may not be sufficient to meet your subjective criteria of 'snowflake syndrome' however, that's something only you can determine.I believe I counted 10 different cockpits, of which there are 4 different models. No, only the parts listed in the shipyard menus are adjustable. So another question really. When you get a different "cockpit" (or base), do you have the ability to add, position, and size out non-functional parts (frills)?
One of each. Can you only have 1 engine, 1 set of wings, 1 of those options in the shipyard screen? Or can future, advanced cockpits have more than 1 of these options at any given time?

No, they are intentionally static. Can you adjust size, position of the weapons you equip?
No, also static. If you are interested in further visual modification, the game does support modding for custom object structures for use as parts on ships. What about equipment? Does it have an option to place it graphically?

Thank you very much Vice. You have been incredibly helpful. =)
I suppose I have been ruined by games like Galactic Civilizations, spending far too many hours nitpicking at various ship designs.
Granted the only thing GalCiv and Legends have in common are environments.
[Insert Choice Word] my Snowflake syndrome. [Choice word]!
Again, thank you very much for your time.

Ruined?
Nah, that's just a gameplay quality that is a high priority for you (so much so you've given it a name). There's nothing wrong with that. I'd say enjoy it if that's what you find fun. Games can have very different approaches/options and each person's individual preferences determine which ones fit the bill for them. There are even players that enjoy both GC and this game even though they have very different approaches to gameplay... they simply enjoy both the turn-based mechanism along with the first person real time approach and the unique options each one provides.
