Im going shopping for a joystick tomorrow so I can get better control of the game.

I dont know what ones even work on Legends, or which ones have useable features. Recommendations?

There is only ONE joystick! If you can afford the Saitek X52, get one! You will not be disappointed. Actually, you might even say the game was designed for the Saitek.
Vice uses one and I would guess more than half the players use it.
If money is limited, look at the Saitek ST90. It offers both left & right-handed control and should provide you with enough buttons to keep the game lively w/o going to the keyboard.
Hope this helps...

MM, while I have your ear, (or anyone who knows), what is the difference between the X52 and the X52 pro. I am looking at a site that describes them both, and be dammed if I can spot what makes the pro twice as expensive as the regular. Is there a difference in regards to Legends?

LOL! There's not a whole lot and inmho nothing of any real value during a game.
It's just a bunch of "lights & whistles" that do not affect the outcome of gameplay and I am a staunch supporter of Saitek!
To be honest, I think the best controller they ever made was the Saitek X45. I have three of them. It is no longer made, but excellent deals can be found on Ebay. It's popularity seems to be regaining, but you should still find one for around $40.00 usd
The main diff between the X45 and the X52 is the position of the yaw/roll control. The X52 uses the "twist" method while the X45 uses a dedicated "rocker" mounted on the throttle. I have never heard of anyone buying a "bad" X45, and I think it unlikely.
Another opportunity would be to visit the Saitek web site, www. saitek.com. They usually have "re-conditioned" units for sale w/full warranties at half price, and at the same time you can check out the diff between X52 & X52Pro.
You can U2U me direct for more info.
I have been using the Saitek for more than 15yrs. I also own every major production controller ever made and I think I can give an experienced opinion.
Have fun...

I agree about the X45. I've used that stick for a few years now, and absolutely love it. The only reason I don't use it for Legends is because there's no room in my dorm room for it. I've been looking at something like a Saitek PS38 Cyborg X as a replacement until I graduate and find a bigger place to live in.

Thank you Accountant! But even the Saitek PS38 provides enough buttons to play a good game. Another good choice! I only suggest the ST90 since it works for either left or right hand.
But if our friend here follows good advice, he should start searching for a good X45!

I would definitely agree, very solid joystick.

The only reason I have not considered the ST90 is because it doesn't have a typical throttle control, and I prefer the type of throttle on the PS38. Otherwise, it looks very nice, and very compact! It would probably work better for me because of my space limitations, if I weren't such a snob :D

Alternatively, you might look "Trustmaster Hotas".
If you want to use it for long time, look for HOTAS added to joystick name. Really hard to get use to it, when change your joystick fast.

Saitek has good joysticks, you will like it.
Buy once, use long time as MMaggio said If you can afford.

You're welcome.

Most important improvement about game playing is dead zones between x52 regular and pro imo.

Ok.. proud owner of an X52. (not looking foreward to when my significant other sees the credit card print outs).

You X52 owners, do you prgram the joystick with the supplied Saitek software, or do you program it with the ingame tools? Or both? I find that using the ingame tools, doesnt really allow me to utilize all the bells and whistles very well. Also... the ones that I can program ingame, dont seem to work properly. They do "other stuff".

Programming a controller can be a personal choice. Some players don't like to fool with complicated profile programs and use the in game assignments. Either way, there ARE enough buttons to cover everything.
Personally, I like to use the in-game assignments for all the axis', then use the Saitek program to assign all the other keys.
Assigning the ingame keys to the controller should be straight forward as the controller was practically the model for key assignments. If you are having trouble doing it in-game, you are not doing it right.
If you need help using the Saitek program, U2U me.
Good Luck

I recently got an X52 as well. Here is the profile I made if you want to try it out.

I noticed this. Do you use Saiteks Profile Programing to use the different modes?

Long time user of the Saitek "X" series.
I use Vice's in game for all axis' assignments, but to get the max usage from the controller, all key assignments are done with the controllers software.
If anyone needs help on learning how to do this, I will be glad to explain it. It's easy, really.:)

Yes as MMaggio says, I heart this "different mods" thing, X52 uses it.
But first I have to buy an X52!

Are you able to use the 3 different modes of the X52?
and if so, do you use the X52 profile programming software to do this?

The profile I posted above uses all three modes of the X52. I have them set up for Navigation, Mining, and Combat.

Most of my "incredible" feats are only possible using the SST.

Hearing and replicating are very different things. :P :P
I am very good at replicating. Most of my job at the moment is replication! No, not the kind where the opposite sex is required! ROFL:P:P:P:P:P
