Suggestions for UI/Improvements

Post by zolop »

This game is deep and the combat is tough but very rewarding.

for example I love the

UI for the ship and the Cockpit.
I love the effect of getting jousted/pushed by missles/weapons from their power.
I like the tracking on the guns.
I like the combat and using inertia and drifting. Using Zero gravity is lots of fun.
I love the customizable features about the game

Some things might make it easier for new players though.

Allow a option if you press "F1" to make the map as big as your screen so the text does not overlap so much.
If your formed on a persons wing, using the "f" key, when he jumps your ship, even if it is a few seconds late should be jumping near or close to the same point he exited his jump.
Allow bigger classes for ships. I'll add more as I get into the game more.

Later in development of Evochron...

For example, have a cruiser class material hauler available so that players can do transport missions. Have cruiser/captial ships that the players can use to protect haulers. Similar to the other game developed, make it so the control of a squadron or fleet is allowed and a command interface developed. In X3 you could have control over many ships but the menu system is cumbersome and leads to confusion easily. I excited to try this http://www.starwraith.com/arvoch/downloads.htm as you also developed that game too.

I like this game a lot, but I don't want to see it buried underneath Jumpgate Evo or other MMOFPS Space games. The feel and look of the game is really good, I like the cockpit. The combat is rough but good and intense. Planetary descent is cool too. If you could have some kind with real physics it could be another thing besides descent that would be interesting.

Suggestions for UI/Improvements

Yeah I guess once I get used to it is pretty good. I am just used to eve online where I can plot systems much easier, with less mouse clicks. Also the buttons seem to be compacted together, (I am a graphic designer by trade) not are spaced. I suppose I could screen cap and make a example of what I am talking about. I might do that this week, as I have Photoshop CS3 and a bunch of other programs.
That'd be great. I enjoy seeing ideas from others on UI layout. One of the reasons the UI is as good as it is (to many players anyway :) in Legends is do to lengthy review of feedback and requests to change its appearance and even the layout of options.

It may take a few more clicks to plot jump points in this game compared to some others, but also consider that you are establishing precise navigation locations in 3D space, you're not just clicking big icons with no control over adjustments/fine tuning. Exact locations with full control over X, Y, and Z coordinates can require a few more clicks for such precision navigation. However, you can right click on map icons though to lock jump points directly to an object in space (X, Y, and Z coordinates), so if you're not already using that technique, I'd recommend it. Just don't plot a jump point in the middle of a planet or moon, make sure to set the point away from large objects like that.
This is a really good space simulator with warfare. I forgot how MMO's are another monster of a genre, so , agreeing that this game won't compete with them. So many good small developers get pushed under the rug so to speak, by so many triple A games. Curious is the developer on gamedev.net some of the time? Any news on when the update is coming and if its going to be added to stardocks impulse? I know its in testing phase, but currently this version is doing fine for me.
I'm not currently active on gamedev (although I think I have an account from a long time ago). I am in the process of getting started on MODDB. Next update is due in early July and you can try some of the test builds posted in this forum in the other threads with 'Test Build' in the subject line. The game is already on Impulse: http://www.starwraith.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=4803
