So i recently picked up this game after reading about it and hearing that it's much easier to pick up than X3. So far I have a decent grasp on the controls and can somewhat navigate but what is really killing me is that I don't know what to buy in terms of ships.

I have been doing mining and have about 700k in the Sapphire system. I would like to put together a good medium fighter platform but do not have enough information on what is appropriate. I have yet to actually engage in any combat cause I have to assume that the starting ship would get wiped. The only modification I made was giving it a cargo 5 so I could mine more effectively.

So if I want to build a fighter, where should I start? Also, how possible is it to have a fun existence as a pirate? I have always wanted to play a game where I can ambush convoy's and this seems to be a game where that can be made possible. Is the Pirate system similar to Privateer where there are Pirate bases and Faction? Or are you completely on your own as a pirate?

Once again I apologize if this has come up somewhere else, I did crawl the forums for over an hour and picked up alot of good stuff......just not a start. Thanks!!!

If you want a good fighter do the military missions in the War Zones. Aside from that, it's a mater of getting up the money to upgrade your ship, weapons, equipment, and finding the stations that have those upgrades.

Lost Rucker is good for upgrades, and making money - sold platinum roids.

As for piracy - well, you won't get rich doing that. When you kill off a ship it will sometimes leave cargo floating in space. If you start targeting any, and all, ships, you'll soon have a system/s that are wall to wall in Reds all hunting your blood. You use your tractor beam to capture loose cargo in space.
