Something I\'m curious about- Bounties?

I'm just wondering.... I've seen this at least in single player since I've began playing.

In the news console, sometimes you see a text describing contracts offered against people. The name is the same X.X.X that the game uses for crew members.
I'm just curious about the purpose of this... is there actually a bounty contract? I haven't seen one yet...
Or, maybe it does something to your reputation if you have that person aboard?
Third option, maybe it's just flavor text?

I've wondered about that myself. One clue might have appeared in the forum, I think it was T'Pol that said she once took on a passenger, and then her reputation "inexplicably dropped", so yes you might be right re: your second conclusion.

(edit) My ship is full of crew members, otherwise I would experiment. It seems to be a fun interesting thing to try, to definitely determine the purpose of the "Bounty News Items".

I might back up my profile, fire a crew member and then look for an opportunity to test this - kinda busy doing something specific right now though.

I have not seen that yet but will have to look for them. I like the idea of bounty missions but with my rep with some groups it might lead to oneday bing a bounty on me ~lol~

Yes, I have seen those messages to, never thought much about it! I saw messages with my name thou after doing contracts for the Navy for example and it would say something like "Maarschalk recently worked under contract for the Navy for an undisclosed amount"LOL:P

Yes, I've seen those too, which is really cool! Leads me to believe maybe it's just something to increase the immersion level, make us feel like there's more people out there.

Yep i saw both, so its kind of cool see ur name as part of game.

Bounties could be great idea, i remember killing missions in frontier and that was really variegation of playing.

I kinda like the idea more of an unofficial bounty on player characters... it has that element of, 'maybe I actually won't get paid because I have to find this guy later.'
I think we should start a thread to opt-in and post bounties. But at the moment, I'm just curious about whether something for the NPCs is already implemented.
