Whenever I race another AI pilot, I seem to butt shields with them waaaay to much trying to pass them or as they try to pass me, because the boxes seem only large enough for one person to pass through them at a time. It conjures up images of two people trying to walk through a door in the same direction at the same time, heh.
I'm not sure if this is a problem to fix, but it does make racing tough if you want to overtake. Maybe bigger boxes spaced further apart? Or boxes that increase in size if the two racers are a certain distance away from each other?
What I would like to see (imo) would be more like a race track in space...something using the flashers/lights from runways/guides to space stations with larger boxes as checkpoints. I don't know how hard it would be to implement, but it could definately be really cool if it was executed correctly. There could be small stations that act as stadiums, an occasional asteriod belt the course runs through and so-on. Though I never did race very much in the game, while it is neat with the current abilities, I found it boring and like you said, a lot of collision due to the smaller constraints of the current box system. Though overall, this is one very small thing over the course of something much larger in this game, it'd still be cool to have different options for racing, have up to 8 players/ai on a larger track. There is definately promise in the future for races as this game grows and I'm sure future titles will include different varieties on the intial racing idea. Cheers.
I only tried racing once, and it was just a timed race, no AI involved I just had to fly through the boxes before a minute elapsed! Mmmm!, something else I have to explore more!lol:P
