I got my first flight in MP this past sunday and noticed a thing that was strange to my eyes.
While you're docked you can be attacked and killed.
Dunno why the game has been developed this way, but it is strange that a station that enclose you while you're trading/refuelling/repair won't attack someone that fires at you.
My personal vision of this thing is that firing should hit the station and not the ship docked....so I'm pointing out this thing.
Any thought?

That is the way it is set up. You will do better with better shields. You get better protection if you buy the station license also. You probably don't want to buy every station license which also lets you buy that stations goods at a reduced rate.

One previous discussions on it:

In short, you are your own defense. The station will not protect you (or anyone else) until you've invested in that protection (either through reputation or by purchasing an ownership interest in the station). You're not enclosed, you're just within the hangar, making you an easy target to exploit. For complete protection, enter the station via the shipyard. Otherwise, there will be risk and time pressure to finish station activities while you are in the hangar. You can use the tips above to minimize that risk and exposure though. You can also use stealth devices once you're wealthy enough and are in very hostile systems.

I liked it better in Alliance when you could duck into a station to save your butt from all the hostiles chasing you. They could still hit you from the docking bay opening, but all other sides you were protected. They you could turn and take pot shots with the excalibur at any passing hostile that went by the door.

I can agree with the OP that at first sight, it seems a bit strange that stations don't mind missiles, laser beams and particle cannons being fired into their docking areas. But I guess we can imagine that they're protected by ultra-strong shields or something, so they don't care (unless you're paying a license for some protection).
P.S. I didn't know you were protected if you pull up the shipyard screen. That's good to know, thanks!
