zoom in / out and other options

Post by XB7 »

I noticed on the keyboard layout page, file://localhost/C:/sw3dg/EvochronLegends/keyboard.jpg there's a Zoom in / Out feature. The keyboard setup options don't allow me to map them. Do they exist in EL?

Also, there are several Alt key settings that don't seem to be remappable either. Like the Alt - Q, Alt - R, Alt - T, and Alt - F.

I also remember reading that there was an Alt - F4 option that allows us to jump forward to what ever direction we are facing the max amount of distance our ship can take us. When I do that, the game just drops to the desktop. I've remapped the Jump key anyways because I kept on fat-fingering it at the F4 location.

Also, it might be helpful to have a Ping display by each of the servers listed on the Multiplayer screen.

Alt-F2 does the maximum distance jump.
Alt-F4 traditionally kills the application the hard way. The traditional hotkey for getting rid of n00bs and newbies ("Hit Alt-F4 for unlimited whatever!")

-Blackthorne.
The individual has always had to struggle to keep from being overwhelmed by the tribe.
If you try it, you will be lonely often, and sometimes frightened. But no price is too high to pay for the privilege of owning yourself.

They exist, but are used for zooming in and out in the third person camera view. It is a secondary sub-function, not a primary. Something added as an option within an optional mode, but not as a bindable function to avoid altering the key mapping template (risking errors and potential legacy issues).

Alt is for alternate function. It lets you perform a sub-function within a primary without having to lose or use an additional key slot (since there really isn't much room left for anything else, most keys are already used). However, for functions as important as target selection, there are additional alternate dedicated single key options (see page 2 of the key/button mapping menu).

I'm intentionally leaving out server polling options like that to save needed bandwidth for players in the game. Once in the game, you can get your 'update' rate which is similar to a ping, but includes a more accurate measure of complete data transfer per cycle (ie, under 'load' conditions), rather than just a rebound of a small fragment.

Thanks Vice. The background info helps a lot.

That makes a lot of sense. I never thought about that either. Considering there is a 35 player max on most servers, unneccessary pinging wouldn't be such a great idea.
