I have a friend who is very interested in the game but he wants to know the following, and I'm not sure I can answer these questions for him, so I thought I'd open it up to the knowledgeable folks here..
1) How many planetary systems are there?
2) Does it have the scope of Elite?
3) Where are the games limits (in terms of Universe size, I guess)?

EL Universe size?
1. there are around 16 charted systems, though i chart 64 different 'local' areas, plus there are a few hidden solar systems which would be included in the 64, there are over 200 planets in total
2. Never played elite, so I couldn't say -
3. currently each axis has a range of 2million to -2million sectors, giving a total of 64,000,000,000,000,000,000 sectors. objects are only limited to ( in most cases ) one per sector and the amount of loading time you can handle

Believe me, it surpasses Elite by many times in every area.

EL Universe size?
I've posted this before, but there have been several references to it....
99 asteroid fields
5 black holes
6 carrier ships
164 containers
11 constructor stations
69 jumpgates
63 different local systems
69 moons
10 nebula
208!!! planets
98 scenery objects
157 stations
27 wormholes
67 stars
6 asteroid caves
--Gotta catch them all!
-------------------------------------------------------
if you ever printed out the universe file to read, you'd find its longer than 92 pages ( renegades was 92 pages.......)

Being an old Elite player way back (remember the old C64 version anyone?) I can say Evochron Legends is the best I have found to-date that replicated the feeling of Elite.. but it goes way beyond Elite.. in all the best ways possible.
Its taking elements like seamless landing on planets (and exploration on planets) from Frontier and FFE (and StarGlider2 - loved that game) and mixed them with superb graphics and elite-style space flight along with a more convetional flight. Improved radars and maps and just about everything.
If anyone want to play an updated version of Elite, this is it.

yup i remember the C64 version - might still have it in the attic!!
Spelk, your friend wont be dissapointed, i stummbled across Renegades last year when looking for an Elite type game but something with more immersion than just a standard shooter and have had no regrets, i made the jump to Legends without hesitation......
you cant go far wrong with the Evochron series and the support from Vice and the rest of forum members just adds the cherry on the cake

This game, simply put, is bloody huge! The amount of content is staggering, and for an indie game, hardly seems possible. Your friend would be well advised to invest in this game, because it really doesn't get much better than this as far as space simulation is concerned.
