If I were to get TrackIR for Evochron, would I be able to look around with it and aim independently while doing so? I ask this because I watched the Evochron video on the TrackIR website, and everytime the player looked around with it, the HUD vanished, and before it vanished it began to turn with their head. Can I use joystick aiming on the HUD while looking around with TrackIR at the same time?
I'm really new to all this lol. (But also very excited!)
Does TrackIR detract from mouse aiming?

Sort of yes, sort of no
Probably not the exact answer you were looking for, I'll explain further. You can still aim with minor movement of your head, but when your head rotation exceeds the COV angle of the MDTS zone, the gunsight will disappear indicating MDTS is lost and you'll need to bring the target and your view back toward the center. You get about 10-12 degrees of rotation without losing the MDTS range. If you're concerned about losing the MDTS range too easily, you can make the central deadzone in TrackIR sharper to hold the central position in more of a snap effect. You can practice with how this works before you get TrackIR, just change targets to the ship you want to attack, then press Alt-V once it's in your forward view. Your viewpoint will focus on the locked target no matter how you move your ship, so you can see how changing your view effects when the MDTS can auto-aim your weapons. It's pretty easy to get used to and you'll quickly learn how to use TrackIR view control in conjunction with the MDTS weapon system.

Actually that sort of makes sense anyway. Why would you stay centered on a target if you weren't looking at it anymore? All this means is that I'll have to roleplay in my head that taking my eyes off of the frontal target I'm engaging caused me to lose focus lol. That actually seems more immersive. (But then, I'm someone who looks at the ground in first person RPGs to pretend I'm bowing after taking a quest...) Thanks for the reply!
