So I was just sitting here thinking to myself, wouldn't it be awesome to come out of jump with guns-a-blazin' and tracers flying everywhere? But then I realized, the current guns we have only go to around 500 units of distance.

My solution: The Rail gun-missile conversion system. This is no ordinary cannon, for it uses the missile hardpoints to load entire system onto it.

The Breakdown:

The Rail gun loads onto the hardpoints as thus:
1 Hardpoint for the missile tube conversion
1 For the ammunition
Maximum of 6 for the rail guns.
You would have to load out each hardpoint individually. And just in case people where thinking it, it's not a frigate, with the conversion piece attached you won't be able fire missiles.

The system would require a minimum of 3 hardpoints, I think the lowest frame offers 4, but I don't remember.

Ammunition: Ammunition takes up one of the hardpoints, but the amount is dictated by both your Frame class and Cargobay. Leviathan and Lvl5 cargobay allows for the maximum ammunition to be carried. There could also different types of ammo that you could loadout. Like an ammunition that could penetrate shields and start chipping away at the hull, but didn't do near as much damage as the explosive ammunition that does little damage to the shields but can take out a ship in as little as 3-5 hits.
Rearming the ammunition could be the same button as refueling ;).


Targeting: By switching your MDS on and off, you can change whether the system tracks targets or just fires straight ahead. Tracking would be the same as a missile, it only tracks within the reticle.

Range:
Maximum Range is 10000 (i.e. on radar), but is stunted with an effective range.
The Effective range would be a ratio of Chance-to-hit/Range, where they further away they are, the less likely you are to get a hit.

Oh, and the tracers should look kickin' rad.

Side notes: I think I'd love to see a clan battle with this, you could have one guy dedicated to taking out shields, and another for finishing off the ship :D.

Also, the ratio, chance-to-hit/range is not the actual mathematcial equation. If this gets interesting, I'll leave the Trophy of Balance to Vice :P.
