had a small idea that barely demands its own thread, but i couldent find a better place for it.
the current ingame mapping system works great for 3d space, however it really fails when you are on a planet. if youve ever wanted to know where cities are on a planet, you have to just fly toward it and hope one of their landing towers picks you up. perhaps when your avionics change to planetary mode we could see a change in the map to a ground map that would either be generated by exploring, buying, or just having that map.
(srry if its a bit incoherent, im tired and its 3:00 in the morning)

Actually, there's more to it than that. And you don't even have to fly to a planet to know where the city is. The map indicates where you need to travel to get to the city quicker, look for the green + symbol near the edge of the planet icon. That's where you need to fly to quickly locate the city. Colonial cities are pretty standardized in the latitude location, so with a little practice, you can even learn to jump really close to a city near the atmoshere without burning up.
