I have done very little exploring as my attention span and play time are pretty limited. In reference to the map in the link above. What does it represent? I understand there are alot more systems than what this map represents?

It represents the charted systems of Evochron and provides the general location of important charted objects in those systems.. Yes, there are far more uncharted systems in the game.
