Combat questions

Post by jureidinim »

So I decided to try some combat after upgrading the hull .. this was a painful experience.. lol

But a few questions came up..

1) I saw friendly ships engage my hostile target which was good.. what i didn't see was any hostiles engaging other ships except me.. One hostile jumped in system and made a beeline straight for me (parked in a station), flying past two other "green" targets.. Am I paranoid or is this how it works?

2) Is it different hulls that increases the amount of missiles carried? If i carry a "spare" missile in the cargo bay, can it be loaded in flight or do I have to dock to load it?

3) Do Beam lasers auto hit? I have a beam laser and cannon loaded, but the beam seems to track and hit the target automatically, while the cannon follows the lead pipper (circle).

Was fun though - I see i have some flying skills to learn.

1 - Hostile ships are hostile to you for a reason. They may not be hostile to other ships in the area, they could be moderate or even friendly with other nearby ships. You just happened to find a ship that was friendly to you who decided to join in the fight and help defend you.

2 - Yes, the bigger the hull, the more missiles it can carry. The ability to load them in flight was going to be added, but the idea was shot down through a long debate, you can read a little bit about it here: http://www.starwraith.com/forum/viewtop ... 002&page=1 You can load them, but you need to be docked to do it (essentially get access to the station's deck crew necessary to load the weapons).

3 - They will only auto hit when you are in range (about 500 meters). Beam weapons move at the speed of light, so they do not need to lead a target to hit it. Particles cannons move at a much slow speed, so they need to lead a target to make contact. Your MDTS can manage both weapon classes at the same time, auto-aiming beam weapons directly at the target while simultaneously aiming particle cannons ahead of the target based on speed, distance, and direction.

Keep at it, you'll learn the nuances as you practice. The strategy guide can offer some additional tips if desired.

Concerning 1, you need to realize that the threat-meter measures a ships threat towards you, not towards the system or other ships. Two ships that are green to you can easily be hostile towards each other. A ship that is red to you can be green to others.
