New member + last beacon again (possible spoiler)

Post by angelos »

Hi everybody !
I'm relatively new to the evachron universe and have been playing some week ore two give or take.. I have to say I love these kind of games and I like Renegades very much.. It's so quiet in the far reaches of space.. I don't know, something about the unknown and stuff.. nice job Vice !!

Well, to my question (story) then.. I read all the posts about the last beacon. I took my pencil, some paper and started to figure it out.. I'd like to know if I'm even close to getting it right ?

* POSSIBLE SPOILER *
I did draw three straight lines: Emerald to Orion (EO), Thuban to Rigel (TR) and Lambda to Sirius (LS). I studied my drawing and figured there were three points where the lines would intersect (and formed a triangle). Then I calculated the three intersection points (LS-TR, LS-EO and TR-EO). Now I think that the last beacon sector would be in the middle of this "triangle" but can't really calculate the center point. I tried to estimate the point to something like (x: -1700, z: -1640) but the beacon wasn't there.. Maybe it is the average point of all these intersection coordinates ? Or am I thinking too complicated... :P
* POSSIBLE SPOILER *

I would greatly appreciate any help I can get to solving this ! Or some tips perhaps ?

Thank you and happy flying ! :cool:

You are very close. The calculation needed is actually pretty simple, without even needing to use an average of many points, instead just 'a few'. One of your calculations is close (I can give you a pretty exact distance if you want me to), the other leaves out a needed offset for where the top system is located and needs to be included in the calculation.

Well.. I think I'm really close too.. You could pm to me the other coordinate (the one which was closer) so I could figure it out from there. I just don't seem to get the significance of the top system offset. Maybe I've been thinkin too much and have to take it back a bit... :P

***** POSSIBLE SPOILER ALERT *****
While i was trying to find the last beacon I basically ended up with your same coordinates, and of course as you found out nothing is there, so then I tried another tack because I was sure I was close. I altered my ship configuration so that I had a 2000 unit gas tank and proceeded to head to those same coordinates from each of the six systems figuring I just might get lucky and stumble upon it. Now I don't know if there is a tenth beacon because I never found it, but what I did find was a lone solitary jump gate out in the middle of nowhere. i won't say where it takes you or where it is though I did write the coordinates so I could get back. Maybe Vice or someone can verify if there really is one last beacon. Also that gate is closer and safer to get to from one system than the others but I won't say which system because that would take a lot fun out of the quest.

There actually is a tenth beacon... It's where you were, beyond the soliatry gate and it will aid you understanding where you are... and why.

You completed the Renegade quest! Congratulations!

Congrats!

How did you get your rep so high? Bribing?

I kept doing contracts for Energy, Navy, and Miners but all I ever got was a continued "Hostile"

azpatriot congrats you have done better than I have. I've had the last clue a good while but haven't gotten the math right yet myself

Exeneva I think the faction with each group will vary from system to system

You just have to keep plugging away at it, the one thing I learned is try to do just Navy contracts at first it's takes a few consecutive contracts before it really starts to move. So usually I'll check for them first and never do any guild or rebel contracts if your trying to improve your rep in a system. Also once you start you really have to commit to working at it until you get a reputation shift i.e. from like hostile to moderate because until you achieve a major shift it doesn't save your reputation state for that system.

Don't get discouraged because some systems are really difficult to work in, like the last one I did in rift space, that one has been the most difficult one so far. One really good tip I can give is when you go out on a contract don't try to dog fight your opponents before you jump turn off your IDS that way you come out the other side coasting at over 3k, use your thrusters to avoid colliding with any ships and fire a missile at the first one targeted, pass on thru and then target the station in your nav map before you do anything else that way just as soon as you complete the contract you can jump back to the station repair, reload and save.

It takes practice but you'll get the hang of it after awhile.

Oh and I never bribe hehehe.

I just got lucky really, in other words I burned up a lot of fuel searching lol! It's a long trip even from the closest system and even if you have a mantis drive .... many many jumps.

Yeah I spent quite a while hunting for it too. Got the math way off the first time, ended up wasteing several hours and a lot of fuel. After geting some advice on the math I was closer but still had to hunt around quite a bit to find it.
