[EL] Cannot remain docked with city docking port

Post by roaldhoffmann »

Hello! Since I first starting playing Evochron Legacy, I've had a weird issue with docking at city docking ports. Once I get into range and the docking port pulls my ship in close, the inventory menu appears as expected. However, while I am sitting on this menu, browsing wares and checking out potential contracts, after about 20 - 30 seconds, my ship will suddenly disengage with the docking port and begin to fall into the building. This will occur whether I have throttled down to zero or not. I do not have this issue in space stations, so it is just a problem with cities. Am I doing something wrong? Thanks for your help!

Odds are, one of two things is likely happening.

First, your throttle control (or a variable thruster control) may not be reaching fully zero. With some control devices, one or more axis channels might not be able to reach 0 completely and even the slightest amount of throttle or thruster input could produce a very slow/slight drift that over time might result in slipping out of the tractor beam. One way to check this is to disengage the IDS, which will stop all thruster and engine activity and should allow the tractor beam to hold you in place completely.

Another possibility is that your landing point is in close proximity to some building structure that may be applying a very slight push in one direction or the other to cause a slight drift. This may occur more often in certain locations and may just require a little repositioning to account for it if it does.

Generally speaking though, you won't want to take up a city docking pad for long anyway as it's designed more for temporary landing and takeoff operations most of the time. It's better if you enter the city completely and then take as long as you want to browse inventories and review contracts (the inventory console being able to support those options while you are inside a city).
