It would be pretty cool if as part of a quest story you could make a star go completely supernovae, or have it be part of the game, during random events where it can be detected, a warning goes out to everyone within 5 sectors, you see ships warping in every direction to get away, and everything gets destroyed in a gigantic flash / shockwave, including stations and planets, perhaps leaving large areas of pure nebulae, asteroids, and a black hole where the star "was".

Can be a pretty rare event, but announced to the whole server / players in MP or SP.

It'd be fantastic to have that as a controllable thing, like a superweapon item you can use next to a star, alas only used in a quest...or a very...very select few contracts for whatever reason (to make new mining or wormhole opportunities, who knows).

Just a thought, it'd be fun! But best kept as a very...very rare thing, maybe would happen in known space once every couple days of play time in who knows what sector...and especially quest"able"

:cool: Cool idea. But one trouble with "rare events" is that everyone wants to see them. Including those players who don't want to spend a lot of time playing.

Still could be rare and have it as a quest event.
Then everyone could see it, I personally would be willing to build a quest like that...short and sweet maybe 7 or 8 seperate events and things to do.
That and it'd be nice to make contracts part of quests too, specific ones.

Contracts were the mainstay of the Mercenary quests. Incorporating them into the current Legacy quest engine (which allows for branching) might be a tad difficult.

The problem with EM quests was that it was not easy to build a proper background quest storyline when limited to unbranched sequences of the standard contracts, though Marvin and SeeJay made a determined effort to do so! :)

:cool: And now the problem with doing a background quest is that all the ships are high-tech ... unless you stretch the truth about why they've advanced 400 years into the future.
