Is it common for the mouse lock setting to have no effect? Currently unable to play the game at all :/

Which game is 'the game'? What is the problem you are encountering? The games should all play regardless of the mouse lock setting, so more information would be needed to determine what the problem is and perhaps how to fix it and whether it would be related to that setting or something else entirely.
