Nope and never. The secret land on Earth is probably the most bigger secret of the game so you shouldn't talk about it with anyone.

I tried many times in Mercenary to land, without success. Although I did get down in Renegades, but I think that was not such a big deal.
Someone, my memory fails me as to whom, did manage to get to the surface in EM.
I think I'll leave this to the new players. Make yourself a hero amongst the pilots. However, if you succeed, never tell anyone how you did it. Not even your own mother. This is the biggest secret of all. No Spoilers.

Somebody else did it too ... or, maybe it was in Legends. He did it numerous times ... once he even had his son follow him down. (I could've sworn it was SeeJay.)

The Earth was mostly depopulated due to mankind's arrogance and stupidity in the 20th and early 21st Century. The Vonari wanted to invade, and then destroy Earth as a major psychological blow to humanity.
During the second attack the AI was damaged, but not put out of action. It's mental stability distorted and fragile - basically the AI is suffering from paranoid delusions and thinks it's still defending Earth from Vonari inspired attempts to infiltrate. As a result it treats most attempts to approach Earth as a threat and uses deadly force.
