Can you lose military rank?
Can someone explain how I get rank points, please? I've got a fully kitted Leviathan, $6MM in the bank, and built my own space station and I have 102 points in total.
Presumably wealth should lead to points since that is one way to play the game. Am I missing something? Am I forced to engage in combat or do quests to rank up?

Can you lose military rank?
I can tell you how in EM - I assume it would be about the same in EL.
To get Military rank you must do contracts in Warzones - Talison Conflict at the Carrier is easiest (EM). The User Guide on SeeJay's web site as a chart of the Military ranking crossover points as well as Civvie Ranking based on money (in EM).
Making Money and doing Civvie Contracts in non-warzones earns you Civvie rank (mostly money) but if I understand money doesn't play a big role as it did in EM so I'm not sure about Civvie rank in EL unless it is mainly doing Civvie contracts.
Maybe he has a User Guide for EL that has the same info - not sure since I can't run EL so haven't downloaded any EL related PDF's or other docs.
Maybe someone else will clear it up for you.

Can you lose military rank?
Hi,
Welcome to Evochron.
Rank is earned in a few ways:
For military rank, do contracts in Warzones. You'll get 1 Military Rank point per completed waypoint upon completion of the entire mission. Hence, a 5 waypoint mission in a warzone will yield 5 Military points.
Reaching a rank of Commander (150 Mil. points) will unlock all available military ships for purchase at the Carrier.
Reaching 999 Mil. points will achieve the highest rank of Fleet Admiral.
There are non-combat missions occasionally available at Warzones.
For Civilian points, earn credits and complete contracts. Civilian contracts yield 1 rank point regardless of the amount of waypoints.
Rank points earned through obtaining credits can dissipate if you spend too much of your wealth.
Points earned through doing contracts are permanent.
Obtain 9999 Civ. points to become a Legend.
Don't quote me on this, but it may be possible to obtain permanent Civ. points through NPC kills. If that is true, you would need to mow through them like Conan the Barbarian's most-epic battle ever to see any real progress. I've never noticed if it is true, but I've known other players who swore by it.
I hope this is helpful.

Military frames can be bought on carriers and are unlocked according to your military rank. From post: 187102, Topic: tid=12574, author=J0shle0 wrote: What ships are military ships? Is there a site that lists them?
There are carriers in warzones and you can sometime come accross one hiding near a star or in a nebula out of a warzone (I don't know if they also sell military frames though).
You can find a list of all available frames here : http://evochron2.junholt.se/main/legacyframes.htm
EDIT: Bad English + list link.

Can you lose military rank?
Your civil rank rises when you complete civil contracts, military contracts. But mostly your civil rank depends on amount of credits you have.
Your military rank rises quickly when you do contracts in warzones against Vonari.

It rises some when you do contracts in war zones. I wouldn't say quickly. I get between 1-3 rank for every mission, so it's slow goings.

Right now I'm in the War Zone north of Pearl. Would I get more experience going to one of the War Zones further out?

I think it's based solely on kills, but if you want more of a challenge / actual fun,
The warzones are arranged by difficulty level.
Sirius is crazy hard. Best to do on multiplayer....it's a lot more fun as a team of human players. Personally I love that AI ships have a sense of self preservation and may try to escape if you try pirating them for $$.
Generally, try everything once, pick what's most fun. Combat is fun, but trading can be a nice way to mix it up.
Also, there aren't just Vonari contracts, go to disputed space and take on some "kill a capital ship" contracts. Again, funner with humans together.

The number of waypoints in the mission dictates the number of rank points you receive, so the most time effective way to level is to exit and reload until you get a mission with 5 waypoints. Do that... repeat. I went from trainee to Lt. Commander in the last 3 hours, and I plan on being Commander before bed.

I can only say this. I have done the mission where you jump once and "expect a long battle" and killed all 4 enemies to only receive one point. I have also done the mission with five jumps. I jump, hit backspace, watch the battle and recharge, CPU kills enemies, jump again, backspace, repeat... 5 rank points.

Of course, amount of military rank points depends on amount of waypoints.

Random destruction of Vonari or other enemy ships should also result in an upgrade ... but at a much slower rate (definitely not a one-to-one ratio).

I think you gain 1 mil point/10 killed hostile ships.

I've noticed civilian rank can decrease if you spend a bunch of money or switch to a cheaper ship. Do military ranks ever decrease for any reason?

If you rank up CIV by doing contracts (not cash alone), you won't lose rank if you "loose" cash. From post: 187253, Topic: tid=12596, author=J0shle0 wrote:I've noticed civilian rank can decrease if you spend a bunch of money or switch to a cheaper ship.
