Weird problems/bugs after switching ship!

Post by GWhipple »

Hi everyone!

I'm having this very annoying problem when switching ship. To make a long story short it went like this:

1. I decided to buy a second ship. When storing my Leviathan into a hangar I had to make a copy of it (yeah that's a weird mechanic but anyways). I instantly nerfed the ship to the most basic stuff (Talon, cheaper wings and such). Before all that I stored the equipment that was in my Leviathan into the hangar storehouse.
2. On my Talon I decided to have 4 equipment slots (the Lev has 9)
Then I see this:

Meaning I'm using but 9 of my 4 slots. But as you can see they are all empty...

3. Anyways, I try to fit a shield and basic stuff like that:

It says it's full... But there is nothing in those slots in that ship.

4. I try to head out to a warzone to buy a fighter frame but soon realize that it will take forever without a Fulcrum Drive.

5. I turn back to the station and now I can buy an FD.

But it still doesn't look right? at least is says 1/4 now.

6. I go to the carrier, doesn't find a frame that I have the rank for so I turn back. (pretty scary without a shield btw.)

7. Back at Rucker Station I change the eq-slots to 3 from 4 and now everything looks right.

So what's going on? It was very frustrating to not be able to equip the new ship, going around without a shield and FD. I guess saving templates is the intended way of having more than one ship. But to get a military frame ship I need to sacrifice a Talon.

Pay notice to the chat window and the equipment slots in the pictures! :)

Thanks in advance! - Friendly Farmer/Miner/Trader/Explorer soon to be military noob.

That is strange. Something in the process appears to have flagged the equipment slots as filled when they weren't. I'd be interested in reviewing the save game if you can duplicate it (when it says 9/4). If it happens again, please e-mail me that profile (starwraith.com > contact).

Sure thing Vice, I will take a copy of my save file and send that to you when it happens next time.
In the meanwhile I can inform you that it happened again, but I found a workaround. Instead of trying to buy equipment from the station, add stored stuff from the hangar. That seems to fix it, at least that time.

Anyways, annoying, and as a general question: Is the intended way to switch ships to use the template system instead? Having the very same ship all the time but just change it when you need to, for example between the biggest and the smallest. Two different templates instead of two different ships that is. Ofc storing all useful stuff in the hangar cargo just to be safe. And sell fuel that wont fit.

Both options are intended. For wealthier players who've got the money and are already using hangar space for stored items, it may be easier/better for them to park their ship(s) in a hangar and then go set up another one. It's particularly beneficial if the multiple ships are fairly close in configuration and they want to have some quick swap options at particular locations (that may not offer a desired rebuild option). For players at earlier stages in the game or those who don't want to contend with hangars, the template option might be better for them. There is certainly no requirement to store a ship at all, you can use the template system as a quick ship access option as well... there may just be a little more travel involved to set up what you want.

Note: Storing important equipment at a station on line is a bit risky. But, if you do, and later find that the station has been destroyed, try another server. Unless somebody has managed to destroy the same station on every server, you can retrieve your equipment from any surviving station. Which begs the question: Which stations are the safest? And the answer is: Default stations. Because they exist on every server* except those where they've been destroyed.

* They also exist in single-player. But equipment stored on a server won't be found in SP.

email sent!

Generally I don't mind traveling, so that is not a problem. But the ability to completely "freeze" and store a ship easily with everything saved would be really helpful. Primary and secondary weapons, Cargo, equipment and everything. Anyways, I hope that you can get some info out of my save files. Steam sync cloud acting up atm, but I guess it doesn't matter since the game should save to the disk first and then try to upload to steam cloud.

Yeah, I would never store something expensive in a contested area even though Sapphire is a good system since it's kinda the center of the universe. :) But now my main problem is storing or switching ships in any way or form. Other than the weird bug with slots, it feels overly complicated. Or it's just me being a total noob. :)
