I could use some help deciphering the information from my Science Ops.
When she says "Container(s) detected in the is sector on the planet," how do I pinpoint where that is? I flew around the planet, both in space and on the surface, looking for purple spots on my sensors, as well as any visual sign of said containers to no avail. Any tips?

Get as close to the planet as possible within the central 50k of the navigation map ... then deploy a sensor station. If the object is within the sensor's range, the blip will show up.

You can also use the containerfinder on my site. Pinpoints it in two jumps.

I've tried to use the container finder while in space, but it seems that if I jump out of the sector and back in (as instructed) I don't get another reading from my Science Ops. I've even tried jumping several (up to 10) sectors away, and still nothing. I only get the initial heading and pitch the very first time I enter the sector. Bug maybe? From post: 184286, Topic: tid=12371, author=SeeJay wrote:You can also use the containerfinder on my site. Pinpoints it in two jumps.

Do you come back in from a different heading? From post: 184297, Topic: tid=12371, author=Flashman014 wrote:I've tried to use the container finder while in space, but it seems that if I jump out of the sector and back in (as instructed) I don't get another reading from my Science Ops. If you don't get new information from your science officer each time you re-enter the sector, that might indeed be a bug. Does this happen in both SP and MP?

I located a hidden container using info from my science officer yesterday. I jumped into the sector twice from two different locations and each time I got a seperate message from the sicence ops.
So it's definitely working as it should. If there's a bug then it must be specific to your circumstances or perhaps your pilot profile Flashman.

My only problem with that is (if it's anything like EM) using the Deploy Sensor would pretty much wipe out any profit potential from the container wouldn't it?From post: 184285, Topic: tid=12371, author=Marvin wrote:Get as close to the planet as possible within the central 50k of the navigation map ... then deploy a sensor station. A sensor station requires less than one cargo bay of metal. The only real cost is when you purchase the deploy constructor ... something you'll eventually need anyway.

Not necessarily. What if there is the blueprints for a Fuel Converter or a mining scanner in the container? Or some other exotic piece of equipment? That would be worth the price of a deploy constructor. Of course there's no guarantee you'll get something like that, but you never can tell. From post: 184418, Topic: tid=12371, author=PaulB wrote:My only problem with that is (if it's anything like EM) using the Deploy Sensor would pretty much wipe out any profit potential from the container wouldn't it?From post: 184285, Topic: tid=12371, author=Marvin wrote:Get as close to the planet as possible within the central 50k of the navigation map ... then deploy a sensor station. I had a phase of 'collecting' templates - the ratio of specials (including some stuff that isn't available in the marketplace) to 'chaff' (e.g. metal mining beam) is around 50%
And don't forget that you can experiment with the template settings in the lab to 'tune up' standard equipment - though I think that a training course may be necessary!

Yes I do. Let's say I first jump into the sector from the south, I'll jump out to a sector in the north, then jump back in from that direction. I've even tried from up to 10 sectors away, still nothing. From post: 184330, Topic: tid=12371, author=DaveK wrote: Do you come back in from a different heading?
I've never played on MP, so I really don't know. It happens reliably in SP though. I currently have my civilian ship dry docked so I can work my way through the military ships, so I'm prolly not going to run out and test that out right now. From post: 184348, Topic: tid=12371, author=Marvin wrote:If you don't get new information from your science officer each time you re-enter the sector, that might indeed be a bug.
