Hello folks.

So I'm working on the rookie missions, the ones for your starting faction, and I've run into a bit of a roadblock.

I'm at the one where you are supposed to travel to a planet's rings and scan down a derelict spacecraft left over from a great battle. I arrive at the co-ords (after returning to the station to fit a cargo scanner) target the derelict and get within 500m of the ship and nothing happens. Quest doesn't advance, cargo scanner screen is empty.

Am I missing something? I know cargo scanning is automatic, but do I need to press something?

Thanks in advance.

If this is part of the quest, you don't actually need a cargo scanner. A tractor beam might help if there's a container within the wreckage (indicated by a purple dot on your radar). Otherwise, you just need to get really close to the center of wreck ... the center should show up on your HUD. Keep one eye on the chat window ... any information you receive from the wreck will show up there. And, at that point, the quest should advance.

I assume this is where you're at in the quest:
There is a
shipwreck in the planet's rings where
you can find some medical supplies which
can be handy for a high paying distress
call. Visit the shipwreck now and fly
close enough to scan it for details.
If so, you'll need to install a tractor beam (you might already have one) and fly directly at the purple dot (on radar) to tractor the medical supplies. And you'll need an empty cargo bay to actually load those supplies to your ship. If you don't get a follow-on message after that, move even closer to the center of the ship ... eventually, the message will show up. If the wreck contains a data drive (as well as the container of medical supplies), you might get two messages ... one from the quest and one from the data drive.

I find bumping into the ship gets me the data and the mining/tractor beam gets the cargo.

Thanks for the help, I logged out and back in and was able to complete the quest..

Anyone know what to do when you are supposed to clean a solar array, you clean it, but never get the contract completed message?

If the contract didn't complete it means you missed a spot. You have to over each panel carefully and don't rush it.

If each individual panel turns color, then it's clean correct?

Yes, but sometimes it can be difficult to see if a panel has completely changed colour. The best way to be sure is to just leave your tractor beam on each panel for a good few seconds or so.
