Not sure if this is possible since I don't know if objects like stars and planets can get any larger in Legacy but if they can I would like to suggest the addition of a Dyson Sphere...for no other reason than I think it would be bad ass.

I actually really like this idea....and technically speaking it should be possible to model. I could easily make something like that in gmax, but getting it to .X format and "working" is the question. Also this should probably replace a planet....and in legacy at least with everything generated on the fly that might not work. There'd be a bit of intrigute work to do.

I've done some similar things in starfleet command, on there it's no problem. On evo, ...

Hello,

Vice will have the final word, but I think a Dyson Sphere is too big for the game as it would need to encompass several sectors.

:o Until I checked with Wikipedia, I'd thought a Dyson Sphere was that ball on the vacuum cleaner which let it go around corners easily.

lol.

WELL. It could be done in a similar manner to a nebula cloud, if we want to think smaller scale .
On that note, something like halo would be pretty cool.

I can't do jack crap without knowing how to move from gmax to a .X format though.
I'm better with gmax and sound mods.

Blender lets you export to an .x file ... can't import one, though.

A Dyson sphere is a mega megastructure that completely encompasses a star and captures most or all of its power output. It doesn't have to be an unbroken sphere - it could just (just??) be a swarm of orbiting planet sized plates covering whatever proportion of the star's energy output that's required.

The presence of the Dyson sphere would indicate a Kardashev Type II civilization - so be careful what you wish for! :P

I did really like Star Trek TNGs interpretation of the Dyson sphere which was a solid sphere but yes there are different kinds such as the Dyson swarm as mentioned in this thread. Either way would be awesome. Could the skybox also be used to create the illusion of being inside one? Just musing.

The location of each skybox is hard coded. You could mod one of them to look like a Dyson Sphere ... but it wouldn't always surround a star. Mostly, it would surround empty space.

I don't think a Dyson Sphere needs to be significantly larger than the sun it surrounds, there are many iterations of Dyson Spheres, some of which seem feasible IMO.

That's actually the first Dyson Sphere I found when searching.
