[Legacy] Building on planets glitch?

Not sure where to post this, and someone on the Steam forums said Vice frequents the StarWraith forums more (Which, heads up, the steam discussions are definitely more frequented by people with questions and suggestions.

I'm attempting to build on a desert planet in the Deneb system. Before you lock the building point, the structures are green and say they have space.

When you lock them down, however, they turn red and say the planet is obstruction the build.

I was somehow able to build the command and power supply structures, but it appears to have been pure luck.

Is this a bug or am I missing something?

If you're not too far near a poll of the planet and the terrain is level from end to end for the module you are trying to build (which looks like it's the case and is fine), it should work. So I can take a look at this further. Please send me the profile you are using (starwraith.com > contact) saved at the city or nearby the planet above where you are trying to build.

Profile is the pilot#.sw file in C:\\sw3dg\\EvochronLegacy correct?

Ok, it appears to be a scaling/measurement miscalculation in code. The game thinks you are farther from the planet in the 'no build' zone than you actually are and it activates when you lock the build point. It's my working theory for now, but if that's it, I should have it fixed for the next update. If not, I'll keep testing to determine the cause, but I'm pretty sure after some tests that is the cause.

Confirmed, once I adjusted the calculation a bit, I was able to build correctly with your profile. I've send a link to a test version so you can try it out and continue building.

Yup, it works now!

That is AMAZING how quickly you responded, found the solution, then released the test build! Thank you for the amazing game and customer support!

Hi Vice,

Sorry for bumping an old thread, but found this while searching for my problem. I had a similar problem building on Onyx Alpha. It was saying building obstructed. When using top-down view it looked like it was partially inside the planet.

That sounds like a legitimate obstruction as opposed to the OP issue in this thread 8 months ago. The build system will not allow building too far/too much into terrain. The region you build generally needs to be fairly flat and open, although you may be able to get away with building smaller modules that take up less space closer to mountains/cliffs. But larger modules may require more space and room for building.

You might also get the obstruction message even on a flat surface if it is too high above "sea level" ... and the displayed (red) build frame will be for a space station module instead of a city module.

Yeah. The terrain was completely flat all around. Though I suspect it may have been too high above sea level like Marvin stated
