Steam Controller Support?

Any plans to add native support? I've been trying to set it up, but it's buggy shifting from Big Picture to EM and takes a while for the controls to resync up.

Steam Controller Support?

Can you explain how that behavior would be a factor with the game's systems that are simply reactionary to whatever the driver and device send to it through Windows? I'm not sure what could be done on the game-side of things related to that behavior, which sounds like driver and 3rd party software related, rather than anything game related. If the signals aren't being sent to the game for whatever reason and/or delay, the game won't be able to use those signals and there wouldn't likely be anything that could be done about it game-side. So I'm not sure what kind of 'native' support you are referring to that would change such behavior. Elaborating on 'buggy' would also help me understand what is happening.

Steam Controller Support?

Hello,

This might also be a good link to look at too http://store.steampowered.com/app/353380/

I think the OP wants to know if there will be a version that can be played using the Steam Link and controller.

Steam Controller Support?

AFAIK, players already can as the game supports any control input systems compatible with Windows/DInput. Remote wireless options such as that simply forward the control inputs from the location the player is at with their TV to the computer running the game.

The question would remain as to why those systems would delay sending those signals to the game when switching BP modes in Steam as the OP inquired about. Especially since the game is simply reactionary to whatever signals are sent to it through Windows. The game doesn't control Big Picture, the controller driver, nor how they work/interact, it can only respond to what it is sent by such control systems. So if there is a delay for some reason, it isn't likely something that could be addressed on the game side of things because it is reactionary to input signals, it doesn't create them or control them... that side of the equation is up to the control device along with its related software and driver.

Steam Controller Support?

I've just had a quick look at Steve's suggested link. In the feedback section there's 20% negatives. The second one down (BloodHawk) is atechnical account of his/her the hobbling of the steam link and the impact on play. It sounds something like Ohsirus is describing;

One quote to give the flavour:

As it turns out, it leaves a lot to be desired, and how they achieved a low $50 price tag is shown really quickly.

To make things "apples to apples", I made sure the settings for the Steam Link were identical to what I use on the laptop, and then I used the exact same connections (100% wired network).

The first thing I noticed is that there was a very large performance drop by switching to the Link, and after trying to figure out why, I noticed that the bandwidth was much lower than I always saw on the laptop. Well a big "shame on me" for not reading the specs before ordering, I assumed they did what the rest of the known world is doing and used gigabit enabled hardware. Instead they capped it at 100 mbps.

Now I know that mathematically, that still "should" be enough bandwidth to stream 1920x1080 at 60 fps. But I am telling you it does not for me. When I was originally setting up my steam streaming to my living room with the laptop, I left the network card settings in windows capped at 100 mbps and I encountered a lot of performance problems (stuttering, significant drop in graphic detail, etc). Then I changed those settings and enabled gigabit speeds and all of those performance problems went away and never came back. The Steam Link is now showing those same exact problems that my laptop had prior to enabling gigabit speeds. With every other variable being the exact same, I don't know what else to think.

Hope this might help

Edit: If it's not then please delete this or let me know and I'll delete it :D

:)

It's not a game stopper once you get a good profile set-up and honestly with your next game coming up, please don't even think about it too much. Besides Steam has been aggressively pushing out firmware and software updates every few days so it's still fluid. I rebought EM on Steam as thought it may prove more fluid than the standalone version I had.

I have the Steam Link also and I.....Love...It....like all hardware you get good and buy reviews as everyone's setup is different. I have zero issues with it as far as performance and although I hated the Steam controller at first, Valve has been adding, tweaking it to death and it has sooo many extra features, that I have stopped using my X-padder profile I created for EM.

That's generally what I've been hearing/reading also, that Steam has been updating their software/driver over time and things have been getting better. And the problem you described sounds like one of the areas they would likely be improving.

I've always played Evochron on gamepads and prefer it to a joystick.

Been plugging away at a new Steam Controller profile for Evo Legends, similar to my Xpadder profile for Evochron Legends/Merc. Was leery on Steam's controller software when compared to the power of Xpadder, but finally starting to get the hang of it. I had created an Xpadder profile for the X360 Controller that eliminated the keyboard totally (all major needs met). The Steam controller offers more tools and the touch menu feature can add all the least used features in a nice pop-up menu.

Steam link on my Nvidia 980ti and power-line adapters, can't tell that my PC resides 2 floors above and is not connected via HDMI. It's come a long way from launch.
