Keep in mind, your army doesn't share reputation or credits. So, if you go back to your original profile later on, nothing you accomplished as a clone will count.
you can also do it in Windows Explorer by going to the evochron mercenary folder and making a copy of the pilot profile there and then renaming it +1.
Example
pilot0.sw = Pilot Profile 1
pilot1.sw = Pilot Profile 2
To make a copy of Profile 2 highlight pilot1.sw and right-click and choose Copy.
Then out to the side in the flelist right-click and choose Paste and there will be put:
Copy of pilot1.sw
Rename the above to pilot2.sw and when you run EM you will see a new Pilot Profile 3 with the same pilot name as whatever you had named Profile 2. You can then rename that pilot in EM if you want using the Re Name button.
I generally us ths method so that I can have backups of a pilot profile in case some glitch messes up something inthe profile - but hopefully with this last update the bug I'm thinking of has been fixed - it seems to be.
But backups are good to have in any event.
@PaulB
I was backuping the pilot profile (I'm paranoid about save file being corrupted later), but I never thought of duplicating, incrementing the number. Good idea, ty !
