Thanks Again!
Starting to get the hang of things! I have completed the first half of the I.M.G. contracts and have a total of 116 completed contracts. I also have 222 kills. However, I am still ranked as a trainee. Out of curiosity, do mercenaries have rankings and if so, do I have to finish the I.M.G. contracts in order to get one?

You have 2 ranks : civilian and military.
Civilian ranks increases with contracts and the wealth you accumulate.
Military rank increases when completing contracts for the navy in a warzone. If not in a warzone, the contract doesn't bring any military rank. Kills also bring military rank (one point per 10 kills).
Increasing your military rank gives you access to military ships that you can only find in the carriers, not in the stations, while access to civilian ships depends not on your rank but on the location where you are and the price you are ready to pay.
increasing civ rank raises the price you are going to be paid for contracts (as well as some other prices if I recall correctly).
Every so many points, you rank up to the next grade, civ or mil.
It is independent of IMG quest, but doing the quest will de facto rank you up as you complete contracts, more on the civilian side though.
See you in space !

Hello,
The rankings go up on several factors.
Completing the Quest itself does not get you promoted, but the actions you take do.
Wealth and Killing are the two main factors.
It is not quick to get promotions civilian or military, you do have to work at them.

The SW3DG > Evochron Mercenary (folder) > Readme (online manual) might be a good place to gain more info on the subject.

For example:
If you play in SP mode you can turn a Fair system Good if you do enough contracts in that system, particularly combat contracts. It take a lot to turn the system from Fair to Good.
In a Moderate or Hostile you wiwll have to do even more and take on more Reds per waypoint than in a Fair system.
We are talking Civ rank here and making money as was said increases that.
Note that in MP you can NOT change the status of a system - Fair will always e fair, Moderate will be Moderate, Hostile be Hostile.
As was said, warzones to increase Mil rank and will take a lot of contracts also. It will go faster in MP if you can get some other players to do contracts with you - but, it's my observation and I think I am right that in Talison Warzone if you do the Carrier Contracts by yourself the Vonari seem easier to kill than it you get one or more players to help you - they seem to get somewhat tougher then - but as I say you get more done faster.
Just remember to Quick Save before taking a Contract.

Indeed, and that guide helps a lot to get around and understand, must have.
Quests also help a lot : IMG, quest for peace, over the hill (enhanced/reworked version of QFP), H2GE vol 1 and 2 (completely different and quite surprising), all great.
Advice : once you finish your IMG quest, save your profile in a different slot that you won't touch, each quest starts from the end of the IMG quest. A default profile is available with the quests where IMG is finished, but it's better if it's your own imho. Getting off track here ...
