is there any where i can find an idiot's guide to winning a fire fight, i have updated my weapon to a Lcespear class 2 but it just seems to bounce off the shields ... please please please help!!!!
many thanks
I'm sure there is no shortage of good combat advice to be found here, or in MP.
Here's mine.
Keep your speed up, using inertial drive and afterburner to change direction. Do not fly direction at your foes. Try to fly at an angle and then turn to hit them while drifting to the side. After you pass by them, you will be facing backwards and your foes will be turning around. At that point, you can slow down a little (just to let them catch up to get some cannon rounds in their intakes).
Shoot down hostile missiles and if that fails, you can use countermeasures. Remember that missiles are heat-seeking, so if you are using the AB, the countermeasures will not be as effective.
I could go on, but let's start with that.
Oh, and equip the best shields and weapons you can fit.
Many thanks Nigel_Strange i will give it a go i have trouble getting my head around the whole inertial drive normal drive (i am leaning as use this to line up with stations etc)
All stargates are aligned for 0 degrees, so you can jump directly to any gate and be lined up to go through if you are heading 0 degrees.
The stations have five gates spaced evenly around a circle. You can use a protractor to figure out what the angles are, but I know that heading 180 will get you in one gate. You might also look at some of the compass mods, as they highlight the gate angles (mine does) to make it easier jump directly into a gate without stopping.
"Mercenary, you are cleared to dock in gate...oh um...you're already inside. Well, if you had been actually following directions, you would have been allowed to enter gave 5, but you're already buying fuel, so nevermind."
The Hints&Tips Guide has a comprehensive Section on surviving combat in the new game.
It includes choosing your frame, equipping it and combat tactics (all from either Vice or experienced players)
