Can you skip quest contracts?

Post by AcePalarum »

Hi all,

I'm relatively new to Evochron Mercenary, but I am having fun with it. Except for one thing - the second IMG contract (the race at New Hope).

Now I know there is plenty I can do without proceeding in the quest - this is good, because I have finally given up. I just don't have the skills to beat the AI pilot (which feels like a cheater anyway since it's run by the universe itself ;) ).

So, I am kind of idly wondering, is there a way to just bypass that quest? I basically want to tell the contract giver "Hey, I'm probably good at other things, but you'll never know if you don't let me skip this one thing I suck at."

It's certainly not going to make me toss the game and walk away if not, but it seems a shame to not be able to experience the quest line (I like a bit of linearity in my games, even the sandbox-type) just because it requires a skill that the player (rather than the in-universe pilot) doesn't have and isn't likely to develop.

Hi and welcome.

No, you can't skip a quest contract, but if you email
me the profile I'll do the race for you and send it back
if you want. (evochronatjunholt.se)

Or, if you want to learn I can give you some
pointers.

Another way to skip it is to use a profile I have
on the "Over the Hill" quest site that has the race
done already. Use that profile and continue the
quest or download my quest and continue.
The original, tweaked, IMG quest is included.
\"Nothing is impossible, it only takes a bit longer!\"
\"We are not retreating, we are advancing in another direction!\"

You don't have to do the Quest!!!
I stopped at the Racing part of the quest because I couldn't win flying a Mammoth because of it low agility rating and i'm not the best at controlling Pitch, Roll, and Turn.
I've been playing the game for over 9 months (when I'm able) and I've progress to rank of Expert (civvie) and Commander (military). I have a Starmaster, a Mammoth, and a Chimera (military frame). At present I've got about 755,000,000 credits (I'm not rushing to get in the billions).
I've don't the regular combat related contracts in Olympus, Cerulean, Talison, Orion, Sirius in Single Player mode and converted them all from Fair to Good.
From my perspective I see no real need to doing the Quest.
I don't feel like I'm missing much by not doing the quest and while it may take me longer to learn some things that you learn doing the quest I feel I'm getting along quite well.
So if you don't want to do the Quest, then don't. You can always do it later when you have more experience if you want to - it doesn't just expire or anything.

If it comes down to it, Paul, you don't actually have to do anything at all in EM.

There are some useful and some fun things to do in the quests and as SeeJay said - if you don't want to learn how to crack a particular skill there are ways around that will let you continue doing the quests.

Personally I suggest that AcePalarum either downloads the new Hints&Tips Guides (SeeJay's site) and uses the advice from there or lets SeeJay coach him or lets SeeJay provide him with a race complete profile and then continues with the Over the Hill quest. It's worth doing just for the background novella you can access chapter by chapter! It starts off with the standard IMG quest (but with a storyline you can access in stages) and continues with a major adventure story :P

There are other player created quests to do (e.g. Hitch Hikers Guide) after the initial quest is completed

 I'm with SeeJay and Dave. But, having written a few quests of my own, I guess I'm biased. The easiest way out is to DL SeeJay's "no-race" profile.

IMHO - not biased - simply aware of the fun and depth of game experience a well crafted quest can add to game play :)

When you save your game, it's saved into a profile (a file with all the relevant info about your pilot - where/$$$/ship/equipment/cargo/kills/rank etc)

You can in can have 100 different profiles - you access them from the pilot manager screen before you start (the 10 you see on the screen are just the first 10 in a long list!)

I keep my main working profile in four different slots and keep them all updated regularly, so if one glitches I've still got the others. You can also go into the main game folder and you'll see the files (called pilot0, pilot1 etc) it's worth saving theses to another location from time to time in case the drive gets frazzled - at least you won't have to start all over again.

I also keep profiles of hard to get to or interesting places so I can go and explore/play there easily.

One thing to note - each pilot profile on the screen is one number higher than that filename - the file for pilot 1 on the screen is called pilot0

:)
