Don't understand how games are saved.

Post by Hannable69 »

Okay, for some reason I can't seem to save a game. Even when I hit escape, select a pilot profile to load, I always start at the very beginning. For instance I saved the game (or thought I did) before heading off to do the race mission. I lost of course so when I tried to load my game, I ended up back at the original station with my purchases gone (just fuel) and the satellite mission needing to be done - again.

There's really no point in playing since logging out or even exiting to the menu to monkey with key bindings means I have to start back from the very beginning. I've never had issues with something as simple as saving a game, but this system baffles me to the point of being unable to play.

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

If a save request fails, the reason will be displayed in the message log. So check that first.

From the sounds of it, you are trying to save during a pending contract. You must save in between contracts. You can save in open space or while docked at a station/city. The only time you can't save is after you accept a contract with it pending.

Hello,

Single player mode to make sure nothing else is happening.

Another way too test would be to load the game, start your chosen profile and fill the fuel tanks.

Now save the game and exit completely having done nothing else.

Re-start the game and load the profile and check too see if the fuel is correct.

As Vice has said, there are some times when you can not save, this is too make sure you are not at one of those.

A lot of new players remain in the start-game sector (Sapphire: 0,0,0) and begin doing contracts. Which is why, if you're in that sector in MP, you automatically become part of a co-op every time someone else accepts a contract in that same sector. By testing in SP, you eliminate that possibility. Either that or move to a sector empty of other players (press tilde key to check).

Ahh okay, thanks everyone for the responses. I think it's because I was trying to save with a contract pending - I was saving just before I started the dreaded race that I've read about. I'm also working on adding an x52 hota-joystick to my computer and want to make sure I can pilot a ship without being a navigational menace before going to MP :)

Thanks all.

Oh you won't be a navigational hazard, worst that happens is you bounce off some one else . . . . or you become target practice.

MP will be the best place too play though, you will get instant help if others online and if you are in a sector where some else starts a contract, you will earn from it. If another player is online and higher ranked than you, let them take the contract, the pay will be much better.
